Blood samples taken by venipuncture in calves within 12 hours after delivery and again in the same animals within 5 to 23 days of postnatal life were analyzed for hematocrit and fifteen other biochemical values. The changes of blood values between these two sampling points in each individual calf were investigated by regression analysis. BACKGROUND: Gastroschisis is the most common congenital abdominal wall defect. Due to the exposure of midgut to amniotic fluid, the recovery of bowel function is often delayed. This study aimed to identify the factors associated with the successful early enteral feeding in gastroschisis and to develop further guidelines of treatment.
METHODS: A retrospective cohort study of gastroschisis babies from January 2006 to December 2015 was done. Exclusion criteria were incomplete data and death. Successful early enteral feeding was defined when full feeding was achieved within 21 days of life.

BACKGROUND: Advanced fibrosis is associated with end-stage liver disease (ESLD) and mortality in NAFLD. As treatments specifically targeted at NAFLD are lacking, patient management focuses on surveillance for early detection of complications related to end-stage liver disease. Although current and emerging diagnostic tools for the detection of advanced fibrosis are crucial for surveillance, their added value is unclear. PURPOSE OF REVIEW: The purpose of the review is to examine the role of value-based medicine and its impact, or potential impact, on vitreoretinal interventions.
RECENT FINDINGS: Value-based medicine integrates evidence-based data from clinical trials with the patient-perceived improvement in quality of life conferred by an intervention. Cost-utility analysis, the healthcare economic instrument used to create a value-based medicine database, is being increasingly used to study the cost-effectiveness of vitreoretinal interventions.
