We report on a case of polyorchidism associated with left-sided inguinal hernia and hydrocele. Biopsies of both testes revealed normal histological pattern. After the hernia repair and hydrocelectomy both testes were left at their original places in the scrotum and fixed. Polyorchidism and its management are discussed briefly.

Elongated epididymis is an abnormality encountered most frequently in patients who have an undescended testis (or testes). To clarify the implication of this anomaly in testicular descent, the anatomic configuration of paratesticular structures, especially the site of cranial attachment of the gubernaculum in relation to the configuration of the vas deferens, was evaluated in 54 undescended testes of 44 patients. PURPOSE: We evaluate the status of the prostatic central zone in patients with unilateral absence of the seminal vesicles and vas deferens.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: The entire bases of the prostate specimens from 3 patients with unilateral absence of the seminal vesicles and vas deferens who underwent radical prostatectomy for prostatic adenocarcinoma were evaluated on hemotoxylin and eosin stained sections for the distribution of the central zone. Hox genes determine the formation of segmented structures during development. The epididymis shows a segmented organization in its structure and function beyond embryogenesis. This study examined the adult mouse epididymis and vas deferens for expression of 5' hox genes and a hox-DNA binding cofactor. We investigated the tissue distribution and cellular localization of microsomal PGE synthase-1 (mPGES-1) and cyclooxygenase (COX)-1 and -2 in male monkey reproductive organs. PURPOSE: To determine the findings at transrectal ultrasound (US) in infertile men with low-volume azoospermia and to evaluate its role in patient care.

Activin A is an important regulator of testicular and epididymal development and function, as well as inflammation and immunity. Cross-sections of human spermatic cords and vasectomy specimens were prepared and the number and cross-sectional area of nerves were determined. On average, about one-half of all nerves in the near neighborhood of the vas deferens were resected during vasectomy. PURPOSE: Men undergoing vasectomy reversal many years after vasectomy are at increased risk for secondary epididymal obstruction. When this occurs the intravasal fluid is often a thick, white, toothpaste-like material devoid of sperm. In this study we characterize the vasal fluid found in men with a newly described entity, segmental dysplasia of the vas deferens, in which at least 2 distinct sites of vasal obstruction are present.
