The prevalence of dystonia was studied in 125 veterans on chronic antipsychotic therapy using a detailed and systematic examination. Twenty-seven out of 125 had dystonic manifestations. The most common areas involved were hands and jaw. There was no relation between the presence or absence of dystonia, and duration of neuroleptic therapy. There was a tendency for tardive akathisia to occur more frequently in patients with dystonia than in those without it (Fisher's exact probability test, p = 0.0656). Tardive dystonia in its milder forms may be more common than currently believed.

In a series of 101 allergy clinic patients, the degree of atopy by clinical history and skin testing was compared with the serum IgE level, total eosinophil count, sinus roentgenograms, and ventilatory function tests. Senescent gynecomastia is common in Veterans Health Administration patients because of clinical characteristics in the population, mainly obesity and the use of numerous etiologic drugs. Epidermal inclusion cysts are soft-tissue lesions that result from traumatic implantation of epidermal cells into the dermis. A case report is presented involving a large recurrent plantar inclusion cyst secondary to trauma sustained in the Vietnam War. The patient reported that the initiating trauma was the result of stepping on a punji stake in Vietnam. Punji stakes, sharpened spikes typically made of bamboo and dipped in poison or excrement, were used by the Vietnamese soldiers to wound enemy soldiers. Careful excision of the lesion is imperative to prevent recurrence.

We studied a patient with mild beta-thalassaemia major under treatment with the oral chelator deferiprone (DFP or L1) for about 10 yr (L1 veteran). Due to poor compliance with desferrioxamine, the patient started compassionate use of DFP at an age of 23 yr with a serum ferritin of 5200 microg/L.
