Efficacious management of migratory collections of pancreatic origin requires precise topographic diagnosis. Such collections can be multiple, atypical and ubiquitous, extending from the mediastinum down to the pelvis, within peritoneal recesses and retroperitoneal spaces, and even within viscera such as the liver, spleen or kidney. Sonography and CT are complementary in the diagnosis and management of such collections.

Study of a case of the so-called asplenia syndrome with a miniscule spleen suggested that the latter was caused by the pressure of neighboring viscera and interference with blood supply. Consequently, it is considered that splenic disturbance arises independently of the other malformations in this syndrome. It is also possible that similar factors may be operative in the formation of multiple spleens in the polysplenia syndrome.

Attention is drawn to relaxation of the pelvic viscera, one of the remote complications of the surgical procedure employed for cure in invasive carcinoma of the vulva. Though seldom discussed in the literature, this problem complicated 17% of the 58 radical vulvectomy procedures in this series. Justification is discussed for the performance of reconstructive or preventive surgical procedures during the primary operation.

A case of death following accidental ingestion of gasoline is described. Toxicological study, carried out by gas-liquid chromatography head space technique, permitted the identification and quantification of several hydrocarbons in all the viscera and biological fluids. The mechanism of death is discussed on the basis of the anatomopathological findings and quantitative toxicological results.

Traumatic splenic injury is a potentially life-threatening complication of both blunt and penetrating trauma to the abdomen and thorax. The spleen is susceptible to injury in the presence or absence of damage to surrounding viscera and can lead to haemodynamic instability and hypovolaemic shock. This review examines the classification, investigation and management of this condition with both non-operative and operative techniques.

Neoplasms of follicular dendritic cells are uncommon and while majority of them occur in lymph nodes, they are increasingly recognized at varied sites such as abdominal viscera. Tonsil is the most common extra nodal site for occurrence of FDCT in the head and neck region. We describe three cases of follicular dendritic cell tumour occurring in the tonsil.

The authors observed 139 patients with severe closed abdominal trauma. Diagnosis of the injuries mentioned is often difficult. Performance of laparoscopy permits to establish correct diagnosis. Severity of the state is conditioned by extensive character of injury to the viscera, presence of traumatic shock and internal hemorrhage. Lethality in closed abdominal trauma is 3.6%.

We describe a case of Stanford type B acute aortic dissection causing visceral ischemia. An aortogram showed an hourglass-like narrowing of the true lumen at the diaphragm with a 60 mm Hg pressure gradient. Placement of a self-expanding metallic Z-stent under intravascular ultrasound guidance restored blood flow to the viscera.

Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a congenital anomaly characterized by a complete mirror-image transposition of the thoracic and abdominal viscera. A case of Raoultella ornithinolytica bacteremia in an infant with visceral heterotaxy is reported. Physical examination was remarkable for markedly red skin flushing, not unlike that seen during histamine fish poisoning. R. ornithinolytica is a histamine-producing bacterium recently elucidated as a major cause of histamine fish poisoning. Only 2 other cases of human infection by R. ornithinolytica have been reported.

We present two cases in which there was isomeric arrangement of the left atrial appendages in association with multiple spleens and complete heart block.
