The anatomy of the chiasmal region and the visual symptoms due to pituitary tumors will be presented from the viewpoint of an ophthalmologist. The importance of perimetry in every patient with otherwise unexplained loss of vision is stressed. Other tests (swinging flash light test, colour vision, screening ophthalmoscopy) are mentioned as well. An ophthalmologist should participate in the diagnosis as well as in the follow-up after treatment of any case with pituitary tumors.

The suggestion that cataracts or other organic damage can result from exposure to radiation from visual display units (VDUs) is not supported by the best currently available epidemiological and experimental evidence. Eyestrain is common among VDU operators but is usually due to factors in the office environment, rather than defects in vision. Visual screening tests for operators should be simple, and tests for extraocular muscle balance and colour vision are not recommended.

Acute neovascular glaucoma is an extremely rare complication following carotid artery revascularization that can lead to permanent vision loss. We describe an unusual case of acute glaucoma following carotid endarterectomy presenting with mechanical pupillary dilation and vivid visual hallucinations consistent with the Charles Bonnet Syndrome. This case highlights the importance of screening patients complaining of vision loss or eye pain for neovascular eye changes prior to carotid revascularization. These patients' eye health should be closely monitored peri-operatively.

PURPOSE: To evaluate the Spot Vision Screener in detecting targeted vision disorders compared to cycloplegic retinoscopy in children <3 years of age.
