A babygirl, aged six weeks, was hospitalized for rectal prolapse and isolated constipation. The investigation revealed a neuroblastoma (NB) inducing a medullar compression responsible for the sphincter disorders. NB is second among pediatric solid tumors, but is the most frequent cancer among infants. Its diagnosis is difficult because of its rarity and the variety of its symptoms. A new staging, based on imaging, has recently been proposed by the International Neuroblastoma Risk Group. With the exception of its localized, easily resectable forms, NB is best treated by chemotherapy.

The inflammatory disease human T cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I)-associated myelopathy (HAM/TSP) occurs in only 1-2% of HTLV-I-infected individuals and is associated with a high provirus load of HTLV-I. We established an in situ PCR (IS-PCR) method that amplified the pX region of human T cell lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-1) proviral DNA. The procedure was highly sensitive in accurately detecting the number of cells infected with HTLV-1. We estimated the number of HTLV-1 infected cells in peripheral blood lymphocytes (PBL) from patients with HAM/TSP, ATL and asymptomatic carriers. ATL patients (n = 5) had 8-93% IS-PCR positive cells for HTLV-1 and these percentages correlated with the clinical stages. AIM: Spinal cord ischemia is a well-known complication in the treatment of thoracoabdominal aneurysms (TAAA). Despite the fact that endovascular treatment of TAAA is less invasive, spinal cord ischemia rate is not reduced if compared to open repair.
METHODS: We report the results of our experience of spinal cord function monitoring by measuring motor evoked potentials (MEP) during endovascular treatment of TAAA type II and III. A 31-year-old woman developed bilateral posterior ischemic optic neuropathy and infarctions of the cerebral arterial border zones and spinal cord after correction of malignant hypertension. Although a few reports have described patients with neurologic abnormalities after treatment of malignant hypertension, full clinical and neuroimaging documentation of this combination of findings has not occurred. This case report suggests that the relative hypotension of autoregulatory failure induced by treatment of malignant hypertension may give rise to these neurologic complications.

BACKGROUND: T-cells extravasation and CNS parenchyma infiltration during autoimmune neurodegenerative disease can be evoked by local antigen presenting cells. Studying the chemoattracting potential of spinal perivascular macrophages (SPM) during experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE), we observed numerous infiltrates of densely-packed mononuclear cells.
