OBJECTIVE: To investigate the clinical characteristics of juvenile localized scleroderma (JLS).
METHODS: The clinical data of 100 outpatients with JLS who were admitted to PUMC Hospital from 2000 to 2008 were retrospectively analyzed.
RESULTS: Of a total of 100 cases, 51 (51%) were confirmed as linear scleroderma, 26 (26%) as plaque morphea, 26 (26%) as deep morphea, 12 (12%) as generalized morphea, and 15 (15%) as a mixed subtype. Microbubble contrast agents for ultrasound (US) have been developed and clinically applied in recent years. Contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) has been widely used in the imaging of liver and other organs such as kidney, pancreases, spleen, prostate, ovarian, uterus as well as abdominal trauma, showing promising values in the diagnosis and differential diagnosis of various diseases. This article reviews the recent development and future protential clinical applications of CEUS.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the clinical significance of using T cell responses to three RD1-encoded gene products for diagnosis of mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) infection.
METHODS: We used ex vivo gamma-interferon enzyme-linked immunospot assays to test T cell responses to three novel gene products encoded by RD1 (Rv3873, Rv3878, and Rv3879c) in 49 patients (TB group) who were bacteriologically confirmed by positive cultures for MTB and 38 healthy BCG-vaccinated donors (control group). OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between CCR5 delta32 gene polymorphism and condyloma acuminata.
METHODS: We used polymerase chain reaction to amplify the CCR5 gene fragments in 60 patients with condyloma acuminata and 50 age- and sampling date-matched controls, and compared the difference of genotypes between these two groups.
RESULTS: No genotype difference was found between these two groups.
CONCLUSION: Condyloma acuminata are not associated with genetic polymorphism of CCR5 delta32 gene.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate and analyze a case of acute norovirus gastroenteritis outbreak in a hospital.
METHODS: Data were collected through the on-the-spot investigation and faecal specimens were tested by polymerase chain reaction-reverse transcription (RT-PCR). Serum specimens were tested by Western blot.
RESULTS: The outbreak lasted 26 days. A total of 87 cases were reported, including 65 inpatients, 15 healthcare workers, 6 accompanies, and 1 pantryman. Twelve (60%) of 20 stool specimens were norovirus-positive by RT-PCR and 19 of 24 blood samples were norovirus-positive by Western blot

With the development of biomolecular technology, more human papillomavirus (HPV) types have been found to be related with various diseases. High-risk HPV 16, 18, 31, 33, 45, 52, and 61 have shown causal relationship with cancers of the cervix, vulva, vagina, penis, anus, oral cavity, and oropharynx. Low-risk HPV 6 and 11 have shown causal relationship with genital warts. HPV may also cause cancer of the larynx.
