[Methemoglobinemia caused by volatile nitrites derivates (‘poppers’)].

Összefoglaló. A methaemoglobinaemia az oxigén szállítására képtelen methemoglobin szintjének kóros emelkedését jelenti a vérben, ami jelentős szöveti oxigénhiányt okozhat, súlyos, akár életveszélyes tünetekhez vezethet. Methaemoglobinaemiát számos, oxidáló hatású exogén anyag idézhet elő, ezek közé tartoznak a partidrogként használt alkil-nitritek, az ún. "popperek" is. A "poppereket" korábban "alacsony rizikójú" drogként tartották számon, azonban számos esetet közöltek, amikor súlyos, időnként fatális kimenetelű methaemoglobinaemiát okoztak. A folyadékok gőzének belélegzése euforizáló, szexuá

The Annual American Men's Internet Survey of Behaviors of Men Who Have Sex With Men in the United States: Key Indicators Report 2018.

The American Men's Internet Survey (AMIS) is an annual web-based behavioral survey conducted in the United States of men who have sex with men (MSM). This rapid surveillance report describes the sixth cycle of data collection (September-December 2018; AMIS 2018). The key indicators were the same as those previously reported for past AMIS cycles. The AMIS methodology has not substantively changed since AMIS 2017. MSM were recruited from a variety of websites using banner advertisements and email blasts. In addition, participants from AMIS 2017 who agreed to be recontacted for future research we

Text Messaging to Improve Linkage, Retention, and Health Outcomes Among HIV-Positive Young Transgender Women: Protocol for a Randomized Controlled Trial (Text Me, Girl!).

BACKGROUND: Transgender women in the United States experience numerous risk factors for HIV acquisition and transmission, including increased rates of homelessness, alcohol and drug use, sex work, and nonprescribed hormone and soft tissue-filler injections. In addition, transgender women face discrimination and social/economic marginalization more intense and deleterious than that experienced by lesbian, gay, or bisexual individuals, further worsening health outcomes. Although little research has been done specifically with young transgender women aged 35 years and younger, existing evidence s

Circumcision to prevent HIV and other sexually transmitted infections in men who have sex with men: a systematic review and meta-analysis of global data.

BACKGROUND: Men who have sex with men (MSM) are disproportionately affected by HIV and other sexually transmitted infections (STIs) worldwide. Previous reviews investigating the role of circumcision in preventing HIV and other STIs among MSM were inconclusive. Many new studies have emerged in the past decade. To inform global prevention strategies for HIV and other STIs among MSM, we reviewed all available evidence on the associations between circumcision and HIV and other STIs among MSM. METHODS: In this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched PubMed, Web of Science, BioMed Central,

2269. HIV-Positive Individuals Who Report Being in Care Are Less Likely to Be Co-Infected With an STI; an Analysis of "Network Testing," A Service Program Offering HIV and STI Testing Services to Individual at Risk for HIV.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of STIs among people living with HIV (PLWH) has implications for HIV treatment as prevention and community efforts to stop the spread of HIV. We explored the factors associated with HIV/STI co-infection in HIV-positive individuals. METHODS: We analyzed data from our "Network Testing" service program, which was designed to expand HIV/STI testing services to high-risk individuals including gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (MSM) in Chicago's South side, a high HIV prevalent area. This program provides incentivized testing to participants and up to six

Use of GetCheckedOnline, a Comprehensive Web-based Testing Service for Sexually Transmitted and Blood-Borne Infections.

BACKGROUND: The British Columbia Centre for Disease Control implemented a comprehensive Web-based testing service GetCheckedOnline (GCO) in September 2014 in Vancouver, Canada. GCO's objectives are to increase testing for sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs), reach high-prevalence populations facing testing barriers, and increase clinical STI service capacity. GCO was promoted through email invitations to provincial STI clinic clients, access codes to clients unable to access immediate clinic-based testing (deferred testers), and a campaign to gay, bisexual, and other men w

The association between health risk behaviors and sexual orientation among a school-based sample of adolescents.

OBJECTIVE: This study is one of the first to examine the association between sexual orientation and health risk behaviors among a representative, school-based sample of adolescents. DESIGN: This study was conducted on an anonymous, representative sample of 4159 9th- to 12th-grade students in public high schools from Massachusetts' expanded Centers for Disease Control and Prevention 1995 Youth Risk Behavior Survey. Sexual orientation was determined by the following question: "Which of the following best describes you?" A total of 104 students self-identified as gay, lesbian, or bisexual (GLB),

[How to reduce the prevalence of HIV-positive blood donors].

UNLABELLED: Despite abolishing the policy of giving the results of the serological test as a way to promote blood donation, and also after improving the predonation questionnaire, we still have a high prevalence of HIV positive blood donors. In this paper we try to analyze, interviewing the HIV positive blood donors in our Counselling Clinic from January 1995 to December 1996, why they were accepted. We asked the HIV positive blood donors to fill a form with the following questions: identification, kind and frequency of blood donation, HIV high risk behaviour, awareness of predonation serologi

Use of monitored CD4 cell counts: predictions of the AIDS epidemic in Scotland: CD4 Collaborative Group.

OBJECTIVE: We describe the CD4 database of the Scottish Immunology Laboratories, and its uses and limitations for making short-term predictions of a CD4 cell count less than or equal to 200 x 10(6)/l (CD4(200)) and of adult AIDS cases in Scotland. DESIGN: The date of the earlier of two consecutive samples (typically 3 months apart) both with CD4 cell counts less than or equal to 200 x 10(6)/l was taken to define when a patient had passed the CD4(200) threshold (referred to as a CD4(200) case). The CD4 database comprises HIV-1-seropositive adults in the four main risk groups [homosexual/bisexu

Generative AI Chatbots as Digital Adjuncts for Sexual Health Information After Prostate Cancer in Men Who Have Sex With Men: Auto-Netnographic Study.

BACKGROUND: Sexual health concerns following prostate cancer treatment are common yet often insufficiently addressed in clinical practice, particularly among men who have sex with men. These individuals may face additional barriers stemming from heteronormative assumptions, limited disclosure, and a lack of culturally tailored information. As generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) chatbots become increasingly accessible, patients are using these systems to seek sensitive health information outside traditional care settings. While prior research has focused on the accuracy and safety of cha

Web-Based, Open-Source LGBTQ+ Affirming Care Education for Primary Health Care Providers: Descriptive Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Affirming care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and other individuals with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities (LGBTQ+) populations refers to culturally and clinically competent health care that recognizes specific health needs and provides respectful, inclusive, equitable, and nondiscriminatory services that are supportive of diverse identities. LGBTQ+ populations face greater discrimination in health care, leading to higher levels of unmet health needs than the general population. Very few primary care practices in the United States have training for

Exploring Ways to Reduce Heavy Drinking by Increasing Hope Among Midlife Women in Australia: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol consumption remains a major societal problem, contributing to myriad health conditions. Australian midlife women (aged 45-64 years) consume more alcohol than previous generations of midlife women and more than younger women now. Alcohol poses health risks that are unique to midlife women, including increased risk of breast cancer; 10% of breast cancers result from alcohol consumption and there is no "safe" limit. There is a global gap in knowledge about socially and culturally appropriate interventions for reducing alcohol consumption in these heavy-drinking groups of midli

Mode of Patient Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity Disclosure and Receipt of Tailored Cancer Resources.

IMPORTANCE: For lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, and other (LGBTQ+) individuals with cancer, disclosing sexual orientation and gender identity (SOGI) in a safe clinical environment can improve survivorship outcomes and satisfaction. Although SOGI disclosure can facilitate patient-centered care, little is known about whether SOGI information is being used to improve care or how use may vary by mode of SOGI disclosure. OBJECTIVE: To assess whether the mode of SOGI disclosure (self-disclosed, clinic collected, not disclosed, or other) is associated with receipt of clinica

Digital Hostility Toward LGBTQIA+ Research Recruitment on Social Media Using Topic Modeling and Sentiment Analysis of Facebook Comments: Quantitative Content Analysis Study.

BACKGROUND: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual (LGBTQIA+) researchers and participants frequently encounter hostility in virtual environments, particularly on social media platforms where public commentary on research advertisements can foster stigmatization. Despite a growing body of work on researcher virtual hostility, little empirical research has examined the actual content and emotional tone of public responses to LGBTQIA+-focused research recruitment. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to analyze the thematic patterns and sentiment of social media commen

Heterogeneous impacts of HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) on drug resistance and phylogenetic cluster transmission dynamics in British Columbia, Canada: A retrospective cohort and simulation study.

BACKGROUND: HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) prevents infection when used during periods of risk, however, its population-level effectiveness is hindered by incomplete uptake, adherence, and retention. Since oral PrEP became available free-of-cost in British Columbia (BC), Canada, in January 2018, uptake has been rapid among eligible individuals, primarily comprising gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM), however, its effectiveness against HIV acquisition across subpopulations alongside potential effects on baseline drug resistance have not been estimated. We evaluated in

Assessing a Couples-Based, Digital HIV Serostatus-Neutral Intervention (Para Ti, Para Mí, Para Nosotros) for Adult Cisgender Sexual Minority Male Couples in Lima, Peru: Protocol for a 6-Month Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: HIV disproportionately affects sexual minority men (SMM; eg, gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men) in Lima, Peru; epidemiological data estimate that 32% to 39% of new HIV infections occur among adult cisgender SMM within primary partnerships (ie, male couples). Most HIV prevention-care research in Lima, Peru, has focused on SMM as individuals and not couples. To help address this critical gap in prevention care, we developed Para Ti, Para Mí, Para Nosotros (P3): a couples-based, digital HIV serostatus-neutral intervention (DHI) for adult cisgender SMM couples in Lima,
