BACKGROUND: Plasma high-density lipoprotein (HDL) levels have an inverse correlation with incidence of ischemic heart disease as well as other atherosclerosis-related ischemic conditions. However, the molecular mechanism by which HDL prevents ischemic disease is not fully understood.
