A direct Primitive Variable Recovery Scheme for hyperbolic conservative equations: The case of relativistic hydrodynamics.

In this article we develop a Primitive Variable Recovery Scheme (PVRS) to solve any system of coupled differential conservative equations. This method obtains directly the primitive variables applying the chain rule to the time term of the conservative equations. With this, a traditional finite volume method for the flux is applied in order avoid violation of both, the entropy and "Rankine-Hugoniot" jump conditions. The time evolution is then computed using a forward finite difference scheme. This numerical technique evades the recovery of the primitive vector by solving an algebraic system of

Detection of endoscopic looping during colonoscopy procedure by using embedded bending sensors.

BACKGROUND: Looping of the colonoscope shaft during procedure is one of the most common obstacles encountered by colonoscopists. It occurs in 91% of cases with the N-sigmoid loop being the most common, occurring in 79% of cases. PURPOSE: Herein, a novel system is developed that will give a complete three-dimensional (3D) vector image of the shaft as it passes through the colon, to aid the colonoscopist in detecting loops before they form. PATIENTS AND METHODS: A series of connected links spans the middle 50% of the shaft, where loops are likely to form. Two potentiometers are attached at eac

Opportunistic Screening Based on Computed Tomography in Musculoskeletal Radiology: How and Why.

With the rapid growth of the use of computed tomography, advances in artificial intelligence enable opportunistic screening, the systematic extraction of clinically meaningful biomarkers from imaging scans performed for other indications. Modeling studies demonstrate that opportunistic screening can be highly cost effective by enabling early intervention and preventing complications such as osteoporotic fractures. Musculoskeletal radiologists are uniquely positioned to contribute to this paradigm shift because routine examinations frequently include vertebrae, skeletal muscle, adipose tissue,

Comparative analysis of airway invasive aspergillosis and endobronchial spread of tuberculosis on high resolution computed tomography.

The presence of tree-in-bud (T-I-B) pulmonary opacities on high resolution computed tomography (HRCT) in tuberculosis endemic areas is frequently regarded as a sine qua non for endobronchial tuberculosis (TB). That is not always the case, however. They can also be found in immunocompromised non-neutropenic patients with airway invasive aspergillosis (IA). Understanding the differences between the two conditions is thus critical for making an accurate diagnosis. This research aims to pinpoint those distinguishing characteristics. The study defines the distribution and morphology of T-I-B opacit

Cellulose-based superhydrophobic wrinkled paper and electrospinning film as green tribolayer for water wave energy harvesting.

Water waves are viable low-carbon and renewable sources of power that can be optionally combined with triboelectric nanogeneration (TENG). Herein, we report on the synthesis of a TENG device based on green wrinkled paper tribolayers (W-TENG) assembled in grids (G-TENG) with channels that enable contact-separation modes involving metal balls that roll in phase with the waves. The paper's wrinkle wavelength and amplitude were adjusted by using a crepe blade at a given angle with respect to a drying cylinder, as well as the speed and torque. Polar hierarchical superhydrophobic cellulose micro/nan

[Value of CT and transthoracic lung ultrasound in patients with systemic sclerosis : Joint statement of the ÖRG/ÖGP/ÖGR/ÖGUM].

Lung involvement is the most frequent cause of death in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc). As lung involvement is frequently asymptomatic, the current recommendation is to carry out thoracic computed tomography (CT) in all patients newly diagnosed with SSc. There is currently disagreement on how patients with SSc for whom no lung involvement was found at the time of diagnosis, should be followed up. Based on a consensus of Austrian rheumatologists, pneumologists and radiologists it is recommended that for asymptomatic patients with a negative CT at the time of initial diagnosis, a transth
