PATIENTS AND METHODS: In a prospective study from March 1997 to June 2000, we included all new patients examined for cutaneous signs of mastocytosis. Pamidronate (APD) is a drug widely used for the treatment of hypercalcemia of malignancy. Renal impairment has been associated with the use of other bisphosphonates in humans, and nephrotoxicity has been described after APD administration in animals. In a prospective study of stress injuries of the lower extremities of U.S. Marine recruits, we derived a frequency distribution of stress fractures. The most frequently fractured bone was the tibia (73%), while the single most common site was the posterior calcaneal tuberosity (21%).
