Prevalence and variability in use of physical restraints in intensive care units: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Given the varying perspectives on the use of physical restraint (PR) over the past decades and the provided protocols to minimise its occurrence in intensive care units (ICUs), a comprehensive study was deemed necessary to examine the prevalence and variation of PR use in ICUs. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to estimate the overall proportions of PR utilised in adult ICUs whilst examining the various factors contributing to the variability of these estimates. METHODS: A search of five databases (PubMed, Cochrane Library, Scopus, Embase, and Web of Science) was performed. St

Genetic Basis of the Negative Response to the Use of Triptans for the Treatment of Migraine-A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

INTRODUCTION: Migraine is a widespread and disabling neurological disorder, and triptans are a primary treatment for acute episodes. However, around 40% of patients are non-responsive. Genetic polymorphisms can influence drug effectiveness, and several association studies exist. This systematic review consolidates findings from etiological studies, which may provide greater certainty about their use in predicting the risk of low response to triptans. METHOD: This study followed COSMOS-E guidelines and employed databases like PubMed, Web of Science, and Embase until 2023. The Newcastle-Ottawa

The Impacts of Legacy-Making Interventions in the Pediatric Palliative Care Setting.

Introduction: Worldwide, millions of children experience life-limiting or life-threatening illnesses. Providing quality palliative care requires interventions that target the psychological, psychosocial, emotional, and spiritual needs of these children and their families. Among these are legacy-making interventions (LMIs), which encompass the creation of tangible memories, intangible experiences, and Living Legacy Projects. Despite their increasing implementation, the effects of LMIs within pediatrics remain largely underexplored, with their real impact on children and families being unknown.

The hidden science of haptics: A pedagogical review of tactile evaluation in cosmetics.

Sensory analysis is a cornerstone of cosmetic development, yet remains underrepresented in peer-reviewed literature due to its frequent confinement to internal or industrial use, unlike food science, where shared methodologies foster wider academic development. This review explores the multiple dimensions of haptics as tactile sensory analysis in cosmetics, underscoring its central role in product development. The skin, as the primary organ of touch, is examined in detail, along with the eye, which plays a secondary role in the perception of cosmetic products. Particular emphasis is placed on

Bed bug preferences for host odor or aggregation odor are differentially modulated by physiological state in various odorscapes.

BACKGROUND: Bed bugs live in an ecologically and spatially restricted indoor habitat comprised of overlapping aggregation and host odors, and they traverse relatively short distances between blood-hosts and aggregation sites. Although many studies demonstrated aggregation or host odor preference respectively, the modulation of bed bug preferences between these divergent odors is poorly understood. Given the recurrent transitions of bed bugs between replete and hungry states, we evaluated the effects of six odorscapes containing aggregation and host skin odors on bed bug preferences. RESULTS:
