[The role of telemedicine in urological care for the elderly - benefits, challenges, and future perspectives].

The aging population has led to an increasing number of patients with urological conditions, such as urinary tract infections, prostate and bladder cancer, and nephrolithiasis. These diseases often require regular medical visits, posing challenges for elderly patients with usually limited mobility, as well as for the burdened healthcare system. Telemedicine, through remote consultations and telemonitoring tools, can improve the care of urological patients, which require further analysis. A literature review in Polish and English was conducted using the PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databa

Stakeholders' perceptions of the synergy between intellectual property and open science: A cross-sectional survey.

BACKGROUND: The potential for intellectual property (IP) and open science (OS) to be used together for knowledge valorisation is increasingly discussed within research policy, yet their practical alignment remains limited. While researchers and research managers often regard IP and OS as potentially complementary, uncertainty persists about how to integrate them effectively in real-world contexts. METHODS: To explore current perceptions and practices, a cross-sectional online survey was conducted, yielding 177 valid responses from individuals involved in research and research management acros

The Nutritional Challenges Following Revisional Bariatric Surgery After Sleeve Gastrectomy: A Systematic Review and Meta Analysis.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) is one of the most commonly performed metabolic and bariatric surgeries (MBS) worldwide due to its simplicity and efficacy. However, long-term outcomes have revealed limitations, including recurrent weight regain, inadequate weight loss, and nutritional deficiencies, leading to an increasing need for revisional bariatric surgery. While revisional procedures can restore weight loss efficacy, they may also carry additional risks of micronutrient and protein deficiencies due to anatomical and physiological alterations. METHODS: This review was co

Iodine Intake from Universal Salt Iodization Programs and Hashimoto's Thyroiditis: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is characterized by the loss of tolerance to thyroid autoantigens [thyroid peroxidase (TPO) and thyroglobulin (Tg)], usually identifying circulating antibodies (Abs) against these thyroid autoantigens (TPOAb and/or TgAb), together with a significant lymphocytic infiltration, causing an increased risk of hypothyroidism. Among the multiple mechanisms described for the development of HT is the nutritional status of several micronutrients, including iodine. Iodine deficiency or excess is associated with thyroid function disorders and, likely, thyroid autoim

Risk of mortality and complications in patients with severe mental illness and co-occurring diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

People with severe-mental-illness (SMI), often defined as "schizophrenia-spectrum disorders and bipolar disorder", have increased premature mortality and elevated prevalence of diabetes compared with general population. Evidence indicated that one-third of their premature death was from cardiovascular diseases (CVD), with risk conferred by diabetes. Although earlier studies have examined SMI-associated diabetes-related outcomes, findings were inconsistent and not systematically evaluated. We systematically reviewed and quantitatively synthesized diabetes-related outcomes in patients with SMI (
