OBJECTIVE: To determine clinical examination findings, clinicopathologic abnormalities, and outcome of treatment in dairy cattle with abomasal impaction.
DESIGN: Retrospective study.
ANIMALS: 80 lactating Holstein-Friesian cows > or = 2 years old.
PROCEDURE: Medical records of cattle with abomasal impaction admitted between 1980 and 2003 were retrieved, and data were extracted.

Six fallow deer (Dama dama) fawns died after receiving 25 to 150 infective larvae of Parelaphostrongylus tenuis. Fawns given higher doses usually died sooner (6 to 23 days) than those given lower doses (54 to 67 days). One of the most concerning ruminant infections is the parasite Ostertagia ostertagi. Known commonly as the brown stomach worm, it is ingested by grazing cattle where it then progresses its life stages, occupying the host abomasum and then the intestine, causing illness. The effects of restricted grazing durations on the gastrointestinal development and carcass quality of growing lambs are poorly understood. In this study, 32 lambs were randomly assigned to four groups (n = 8, body weight = 21.86 kg) corresponding to 2, 4, 8 and 12 h of grazing per day.
