We encountered two cases of typical transient global amnesia (a 53-year-old woman and a 50-year-old man). Both cases showed no evidence of abnormal findings which caused the attack on examinations of CSF, EEG, brain CT, brain MRI and cerebral angiography. Examinations of positron emission tomography, using 15O labeled CO2 and O2, were performed on 14 and 8 days after the attack in the female and male cases, respectively, and those disclosed decreased regional blood flow (CBF), increased oxygen extraction ratio (OER), and decreased oxygen metabolic ratio (CMRO2) in the bilateral medial temporal

The cases are reported of two men, aged 20 and 47 years, who suffered an episode of transient global amnesia. Both were subsequently found to have hydrocephalus.

Because of a case of typical transient global amnesia following cerebral angiography, the records of all patients undergoing cerebral angiography during a seven-year period were reviewed. Six other cases were discovered. All patients had either transfemoral catheter or brachial angiograms performed immediately before the development of amnesia. Spasm of a vertebral artery was noted in one case. None had clinically obvious seizures. All recovered within 24 hours. This only recently reported complication of cerebral angiography is consistent with a vascular etiology of the syndrome of transient

This manuscript presents a case report of transient global amnesia with bilateral hippocampal lesions which might be triggered by the fear of getting infected by coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The purpose of this article is to facilitate the clinicians in understanding that an increasing number of patients with transient global amnesia have been reported during the COVID-19 global outbreak.

The differential diagnosis of acute-onset amnesia includes transient global amnesia (TGA), transient epileptic amnesia (TEA), and functional (or psychogenic) amnesia. The most common of these, TGA, is a rare but well-described condition characterised by a self-limited episode of dense anterograde amnesia with variable retrograde amnesia. Although the clinical phenomenology of TGA is well described, its pathogenesis is not currently understood, thus preventing the development of evidence-based therapeutic recommendations. Here, TGA, TEA, and functional amnesia are considered in light of the his

IMPORTANCE: Pathogenesis of focal hippocampal ischemia in transient global amnesia (TGA) remains unclear but may be of venous origin. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-restricted diffusion has considerable limitations as the only current TGA imaging marker, highlighting a critical need for more reliable disease determinants.
OBJECTIVE: To assess whether the severity of unilateral or bilateral styloidogenic jugular vein compression (SJVC), which can impair intracranial venous drainage, could serve as a novel adjunctive imaging risk factor associated with TGA diagnosis.

We present a unique case of transient global amnesia following intravenous administration of a non-ionic iodinated contrast agent for abdominal CT examination. Follow up MR imaging and MR angiography studies revealed hippocampal microinfarction and transient cerebral vasospasm. To our knowledge, this is the first reported case capturing arterial vasospasm following intravenous use of iodinated contrast. Medical professionals handling contrast agents should note the potential for these rare but serious adverse effects.

UNLABELLED: Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a rare, temporary, sudden-onset disturbance in anterograde episodic memory with unclear pathophysiology. Previous brain volumetric analysis in TGA patients showed varied results.
OBJECTIVE: To explore brain morphometry, hypothesizing that patients with TGA exhibit structural alterations.
METHODS: A case-control study was performed involving TGA subjects (n=50) and matched healthy controls (n=50). Both groups underwent a 3D-T1 weighted structural MRI on a 3T scanner, and voxel-based morphometry (VBM), region-based morphometry (RBM), and surface-ba

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: This study aimed to determine the ability of deep learning using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to diagnose transient global amnesia (TGA) based on electroencephalography (EEG) data, and to differentiate between patients with recurrent TGA events and those with a single TGA event.
METHODS: We retrospectively enrolled newly diagnosed patients with TGA and healthy controls. All patients with TGA and the healthy controls underwent EEG. The EEG signals were converted into images using time-frequency analysis with short-time Fourier transforms. We employed two CNN mod

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a sudden onset of anterograde and retrograde amnesia. We aimed to assess differences in terms of cortical thickness and structural brain connectome between patients with TGA (at acute and delayed postrecovery stages) and matched controls.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We report on 18 consecutive patients with TGA who underwent 3T MR imaging, including DTI and MPRAGE sequences, at the acute (mean delay postonset: 44 hours) and delayed post-recovery (mean delay: 35 days) stages. Structural connectome was assessed in patients with TGA and in 18

Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a neurological disorder characterized by sudden onset of anterograde and retrograde amnesia. TGA following angiography is rare and its possible etiologies have not been determined definitively. Herein, I report a case of TGA after carotid artery stenting with DWI findings, which, to date, has not been reported. The patient was a 71-year-old man who developed TGA following carotid artery stenting. Diffusion-weighted imaging demonstrated a focal restricted diffusion lesion in the left medial temporal lobe. Left carotid artery stenting was performed via the commo

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Elevation of cardiac troponin (cTn), a sensitive biomarker of myocardial injury, is frequently observed in severe acute neurological disorders. Case reports suggest that cardiac dysfunction may also occur in patients with transient global amnesia (TGA). Until now, no study has systematically assessed this phenomenon.
METHODS: We performed a case-control study using data of consecutive patients presenting with TGA from 2010 to 2015. Multiple logistic regression analysis accounting for age, sex and cardiovascular risk factors was performed to compare the likelihood of my

This paper comments on a companion article, a first-person account of an episode of transient global amnesia written by New York Times reporter Trip Gabriel (Gabriel T. 2017. Cogn Behav Neurol. 30:1-4). Mr Gabriel describes having no memories of a cold, rainy day that he had spent on a sailboat competing in two races. The episode may have been triggered by his exposure to water. Afterward, the skipper recalled that Mr Gabriel had functioned fine on the boat, although after returning to shore he needed help finding his car. When he told his wife over the phone that he could not remember where h

INTRODUCTION: According to the criteria of Hodges and Warlow, transient global amnesia is defined by sudden onset of isolated anterograde amnesia of spontaneous resolution within one to twenty-four hours. Its pathophysiological mechanisms are still uncertain.
METHODS: In a retrospective study, we have analyzed epidemiological, clinical and MRI data from twelve patients admitted to the only neurological department of French Polynesia for transient global amnesia corresponding to the criteria of Hodges and Warlow between January 2010 and December 2013.
RESULTS: The median age of the cohort was

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Previous studies have suggested that transient global amnesia (TGA) may be provoked by cerebral venous congestion due to a reflux during Valsalva maneuver (VM) caused by internal jugular venous valve incompetence (IJVVI). We investigated the hemodynamic consequences of postural changes on IJVVI and on intracranial veins in patients with TGA and control subjects.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: IJVVI was assessed by means of extracranial color-coded duplex sonography during VM in 28 patients with TGA and 25 controls. The basal vein Rosenthal was examined by transcranial color-co
