The capillary beds of the eye are lined by two types of endothelia, fenestrated in the choriocapillaris and ciliary body, and continuous in the retina and iris. In this study, we wished to find a marker for each of these types of vessel beds using lectin histochemistry. We first confirmed that an antibody against P-450-HM1, an isozyme of cytochrome P-450 which was purified from human livers at autopsy, detects only P-450 on immunoblots. Fourteen limbal biopsy specimens from 11 dogs with chronic superficial keratitis (CSK) were examined histologically and immunohistochemically. Ten of the 14 specimens had corneal epithelial hyperplasia and/or atrophy. Eleven of the 14 specimens had thickened epithelial basement membranes. We report here both the range and patterns of reactivity of an IgG1 monoclonal antibody, B72.3, prepared against human, metastatic mammary carcinoma cells.
