An intrapancreatic bronchogenic cyst simulating a mucinous cystadenoma. A case report.

We present the case of a 61-year-old male with a long-term epigastric mass and pain, high CA 19.9 levels and no weight loss. A computerized tomography was performed and a solid-cystic pancreatic mass was observed. The lesion measured 10 x 8 cm with well-defined margins, a macroscopic calcification and an enhanced solid component.

Triplegic Stroke After Air Embolism From Bronchogenic Cyst Secondary to Barotrauma.

Emergency medical assistance is rare regarding air travel. Pulmonary barotrauma during air travel can occur in asymptomatic patients who have underlying intraparenchymal pulmonary pathology such as bullae or bronchogenic cysts. During aircraft travel the resultant decrease in pressure during the ascent can lead to expansion of cyst volume, culminating in tears and leakage of air into the surrounding vasculature and thus the potential for air embolism. We describe a case of massive cerebral air embolism secondary to pulmonary barotrauma in a previously asymptomatic patient.

Mature mediastinal bronchogenic cyst with left pericardial defect: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Mediastinal bronchogenic cysts and pericardial defects are both rare. It is extremely rare that both occur simultaneously. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first case of a coexistent bronchogenic cyst and pericardial defect reported in China. We performed a literature review and found a relationship between bronchogenic cysts and pericardial defects, which further revealed the correlation between the bronchus and pericardium during embryonic development. CASE SUMMARY: A 14-year-old boy attended a local hospital for ankylosing spondylitis. Chest radiography showed an enhan…

[A Case of Retroperitoneal Bronchogenic Cyst Successfully Resected with Retroperitoneoscopic Surgery].

A 32-year-old woman was referred to our hospital for consultation with a suspected left adrenal tumor detected by ultrasonography at a health check. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 3×1×4 cm multilocular cystic mass arising from the diaphragmatic crura, suggesting a retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst. The patient underwent excision of the cyst and adjacent diaphragm using a retroperitoneoscopic approach. Retroperitoneal bronchogenic cysts are rare. We review the cases of 26 patients who underwent laparoscopic resection of a retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst.

Retroperitoneal Bronchogenic Cyst Located in the Presacral Space: A Case Report.

Bronchogenic cysts are rare congenital anomalies that are most frequently found in the mediastinum along the tracheobronchial tree, especially in the posterior aspect of the superior mediastinum. Bronchogenic cysts have also been reported in intrapulmonary, intrapericardial, abdominal, and retroperitoneal locations. Herein, we report a case of a retroperitoneal bronchogenic cyst in the presacral space. The patient was diagnosed based on a post-operative histopathological examination.

Anterior bronchogenic mediastinal cyst as priority procedure for robotic thoracic surgery.

We report a case of anterior bronchogenic mediastinal cyst (ABMC) in old age patient underwent Robotic Thoracic Surgery (da Vinci Surgical System). Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) represents the routine approach in posterior bronchogenic mediastinal cyst, but some limitation for resection of mediastinal mass located in the anterior mediastinum has been reported. The introduction of da Vinci surgical system has overcome the surgical limits of VATS as two dimensional vision (2D) and the use of long rigid instruments with poor maneuverability in case of fine dissection.

A Rare Case of Intra- Abdominal Bronchogenic Cyst- A Case Report.

Bronchogenic cysts are developmental foregut anomalies usually located in the mediastinum. A 90% of the bronchogenic cysts occur in the posterior aspect of superior mediastinum. Retroperitoneal location of a bronchogenic cyst is rare. We report a rare case of intra abdominal bronchogenic cyst. A CT scan was done for a 34-year-old female who presented with complains of heaviness in the right flank. CT scan revealed a large cyst of 10 x 6 cm in the right hypochondrium. Cyst was removed laparoscopically and the histopathology revealed a bronchogenic cyst.

Mediastinal Bronchogenic Cyst With Acute Cardiac Dysfunction: Two-Stage Surgical Approach.

We describe a two-stage surgical approach in a patient with cardiac dysfunction and hemodynamic compromise resulting from a massive and compressive mediastinal bronchogenic cyst. To drain this cyst, video-assisted mediastinoscopy was performed as an emergency procedure, which immediately improved the patient's cardiac function. Five days later and under video thoracoscopy, resection of the cyst margins was impossible because the cyst was tightly adherent to the left atrium. We performed deroofing of this cyst through a right thoracotomy. The patient had an uncomplicated postoperative recovery,…

A case report of para-esophageal bronchogenic cyst with esophageal communication.

Paraesophageal bronchogenic cyst was one of common mediastinal congenital cystic lesions of foregut origin. Because of an intimate embryologic relationship with the esophagus, they were usually found intramural (intramural esophageal bronchogenic cysts) with the local esophageal mucosa being intact and the paraesophageal bronchogenic cysts were rarely communicated with esophageal lumen. We report a case of para-esophageal bronchogenic cyst communicating to the esophageal lumen thorough a pedicle of canal, which looked liked a diverticulum on X-ray. During the operation, a communication of para…

Intra-abdominal bronchogenic cyst with gastric attachment: report of a case.

We report a rare case of an intra-abdominal bronchogenic cyst. An abnormal lesion was detected on an ultrasonogram, done as part of a physical checkup, in an 81-year-old woman. Computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging showed a cystic mass attached to the lesser curvature of the stomach. Initially, we suspected a congenital cyst without malignant components; however, as the patient wished to have the lesion removed, we performed a minilaparotomy. The cystic lesion was firmly attached to the lesser curvature by fibrous tissue. Microscopic examination subsequently revealed the 26-mm mas…

Pediatric bronchogenic cyst complicated by atypical mycobacterium infection: a case report.

INTRODUCTION: Bronchogenic cysts are lesions of congenital origin derived from the primitive foregut and are the most common primary cysts of the mediastinum. They are most frequently unilocular and contain clear fluid. Respiratory distress is the most common presentation in pediatric patients, manifested by recurring episodes of cough, stridor, wheezing and retractions. CASE PRESENTATION: We report the first pediatric case of bronchogenic cyst complicated by atypical Mycobacterium infection. This case describes a 13-year-old Caucasian American female with a large cystic lesion and extensive …

An unusual midline swelling--case report of a cutaneous bronchogenic cyst.

Cutaneous bronchogenic cyst remains a very rare cause of a midline swelling in children. The authors report a case of a 14-month-old boy who presented with a sternal sinus and consequent abscess. Histopathological analysis revealed this to be a cutaneous bronchogenic cyst. This is a very rare lesion with only 65 cases reported in the literature. It is caused by an abnormal development in the distal tracheobronchial tree, and diagnosis is confirmed by ciliated and mucin-producing pseudostratified columnar epithelium of respiratory type on histopathological analysis. It is managed by resection o…

Mediastinal bronchogenic cyst with respiratory distress from airway and vascular compression.

A 45-year-old female, who had undergone emergency drainage of a cyst, complained of severe dyspnea. Chest computed tomography scans showed a large mass, compressing the right pulmonary artery, superior vena cava, and tracheal bifurcation. Subtotal resection of the cyst wall was carried out due to dense adhesion to adjacent structures. Immediately after surgery, her symptoms resolved completely. Mediastinal bronchogenic cysts in the subcarinal space can cause severe respiratory distress from airway and vascular compression.
