CASE: A 47-year-old male with swelling over the patella and associated pain, subsiding with medicines but recurring after a few days. Diagnosed as prepatellar bursitis by the family physician, it eventually turns out to be osteomyelitis of the patella. Treated with curettage, biopsy, and placement of bio-composite mixed with antibiotics. Intra-operative findings and histopathology confirmed tuberculosis of the patella. On follow-up after 6 years and the completion of anti-tuberculosis treatment, the patient showed full functional and radiological recovery without recurrence.
CONCLUSION: Early

Tuberculous trochanteric bursitis (TTB) is an extremely rare form of extrapulmonary tuberculosis. Due to a low clinical suspicion and poor collaboration among medical professionals, the diagnosis of TTB can be often delayed. In this report, we describe a case of neglected TTB in an adolescent girl that initially presented with right thigh swelling and fluctuance. The patient underwent repeated unsuccessful surgical treatment; however, dull pain and periodic wound drainage remained for eight years. Complete excision of fistula and trochanteric bursa and one year of oral antituberculous drug the

In early rheumatoid arthritis (RA), proliferative synovitis sometimes occurs earlier in the tenosynovium or bursal synovium than in the articular synovium. Here we report two patients who presented with subcalcaneal bursitis while progressing from undifferentiated arthritis with high-titer anti-CCP antibodies (ACPA) to a diagnosis of RA. They had initially presented with palindromic transient pain in the hands and the feet. They were strongly positive for ACPA and negative for rheumatoid factor (RF) at the onset of symptoms. A few years later, they developed persistent plantar heel pain and un

BACKGROUND: Shoulder pseudodislocation, or "drooping shoulder," presents with acute pain and deformity of the joint, with radiographs demonstrating inferior subluxation of the humeral head relative to the glenoid fossa. The diagnosis must be made promptly and distinguished from true glenohumeral dislocation, both to avoid unnecessary attempts at closed reduction and to facilitate investigation of the underlying cause, which may include septic arthritis, hemarthrosis, or other emergent etiologies. Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) may be useful in the evaluation of emergency department (ED) pati

A 73-year-old woman presented with a recurrent cystic mass around her left olecranon. She had a history of 8 steroid injections due to elbow pain beginning 3 years ago and twice had undergone aspiration of olecranon bursitis that developed two months prior to presentation. She had been taking medications for hypertension and diabetes with no pertinent past history. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), there were multiple nodules in the olecranon bursa, which were isointense to muscle on T1-weighted images and hyperintense to muscle on T2-weighted images. Our initial diagnosis was synovial chon

Lateral hip pain is debilitating, with pain located at or around the greater trochanter, and trochanteric bursitis is one of the conditions that are part of the greater trochanter pain syndrome. At times, trochanteric bursitis coexists with femoroacetabular impingement. In such cases, the arthroscope is used as a soft tissue endoscope facilitating debridement of the bursa and functional lengthening of the fascia lata. Coupled with appropriate femoroacetabular impingement treatment and rehabilitation, the procedure allows predictable functional results.

INTRODUCTION: Olecranon bursitis (OB) is a benign but disturbing condition that may adversely affect a military recruit's combat preparedness. This study was designed to assess incidence, risk factors, and associated medical burden of OB in the Israel Defense Forces.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This is a retrospective study drawing on medical records of all Israel Defense Forces soldiers diagnosed as having OB between 2005 and 2015. OB was classified as septic and noninfectious. Crude incidence rates and duty-specific incidence rates were calculated. Medical burden was defined by the number of phy

Brucellosis is still endemic in certain parts of the world including the Mediterranean, the Middle East, Latin America, and African regions. Osteoarticular manifestations are common presenting features. Brucellosis presenting as prepatellar bursitis has already been reported. We present a case of seronegative olecranon bursitis with positive blood and aspirate cultures. The patient improved remarkably by treatment with streptomycin and doxycycline with no evidence or relapse.

BACKGROUND: Treatment of septic olecranon and patellar bursitis differs considerably and is currently under discussion. We therefore performed a retrospective study of our patients with septic bursitis in the past 5 years.
PATIENTS AND METHOD: Between March 2007 and February 2012 we treated 79 patients with septic olecranon (n = 43) and patellar (n = 36) bursitis surgically: 61-males, 18 females, age 51 (range: 11-91) years. Four patients had not been treated before, 25 had suffered recurrences after 1-10 previous procedures, and 9 patients had not improved after conservative therapy. 34 pati

Thirty seven cases of bursitis presented to our Veterinary Teaching Hospital from 2001 to 2005. There were 10 adult female buffalos with olecranon bursitis (one had bilateral bursitis) and 26 calves (7 cattle and 19 buffalos, 16 males and 10 females) with presternal bursitis. There were 10 out of 11 cases of olecranon bursitis and 21 out of 26 cases of presternal bursitis with different forms (cystic, proliferative and fibrous) that were removed surgically. The remaining 6 cases, cystic bursitis (olecranon = 1, presternal = 5), were treated by aspiration of their contents and injection of 4% i

OBJECTIVE: To assess the clinical and microbiological characteristics of septic bursitis in those cases that required treatment at the hospital during the past 10 years in a northwestern area of Spain.
METHODS: The charts of all patients diagnosed as having septic bursitis at Hospital Xeral-Calde, Lugo, Spain, from October 1987 through September 1997 were reviewed based on published criteria and graded according to severity.
RESULTS: Sixty-nine patients diagnosed with definite and 6 with probable septic bursitis met the criteria for severe septic bursitis. Sixty-two were male (82.7%). The me

Olecranon bursitis is relatively common. One third of episodes are septic. Most of the remainder are non-septic, with occasional rheumatological causes. Trauma can cause both septic and non-septic olecranon bursitis. Clinical features are helpful in separating septic from non-septic olecranon bursitis, but there may be local erythema in both. Aspiration should be carried out in all cases, and if the presence of infection is still in doubt, microscopy, Gram staining, and culture of the aspirate will resolve the issue. Septic olecranon bursitis should be treated by aspiration, which may need to

Specific antibodies were investigated in serums of chicks vaccinated with live vaccine and revaccinated with inactivated vaccine against the infectious bursal disease virus, using three methods. An ELISA technique was used to determine antibody titres at a fourfold serum dilution; the reaction was evaluated visually. The results were compared with the titres of neutralizing antibodies and percentage of samples with precipitin activity (Fig. 1). The average values of neutralizing antibody titres and ELISA titres were found to have an analogical pattern; a decrease in maternal antibodies on the

Rupture of the triceps tendon is rare, and no previous report of its association with olecranon bursitis was found in the literature. A previously healthy 72-year-old man fell from a stationary bicycle and was examined by his family physician. Calcification over the olecranon area with an intact triceps tendon was revealed. Two months later the patient presented with triceps rupture and weakness of elbow extension with olecranon bursitis. Grossly, the pathologic lesion consisted of synovial frond proliferation and invasion of the cut end of a tendon. A "collar stud-shaped" bursa was found in f

This article reports three cases of ipsilateral limb swelling following total hip arthroplasty secondary to vascular compression from iliopsoas bursitis. The etiology was attributed to insufficient acetabular component anteversion, leading to polyethylene liner wear and iliopsoas impingement. Two patients underwent revision surgery and achieved symptom resolution. In contrast, the third patient opted for conservative management, resulting in recurrent limb swelling and the development of deep vein thrombosis. The patient required interventional treatment by the vascular surgery service and ult

BACKGROUND: Greater trochanteric bursitis is a common cause of lateral hip pain and is frequently considered within the broader clinical spectrum of greater trochanteric pain syndrome. Initial treatment commonly includes activity modification, physical therapy, a home exercise program, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and other nonopioid medications. Corticosteroid injections may provide meaningful relief, although their duration of benefit can be limited. Platelet-rich plasma is an autologous biologic injectate that can be considered as an alternative treatment for greater trochanteric p

BACKGROUND: Iliopsoas tendonitis can cause persistent pain after total hip arthroplasty (THA). Nonoperative management of iliopsoas tendonitis includes anti-inflammatory drugs and image-guided corticosteroid injections. This study evaluated the efficacy of ultrasound-guided corticosteroid injections (US-CSIs) for iliopsoas tendonitis following THA.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 42 patients who received an US-CSI for iliopsoas tendonitis after primary THA between 2009 and 2020 at a single institution. Outcomes including reoperation, groin pain at last follow-up, additional intrabursal i
