30 farmers with contact dermatitis and 20 controls were patch tested with a series of locally used pesticides. Allergic reactions to 1 or more pesticides were seen in 11 patients but none of the controls. A series of 34 beta-arylamidoacrylic acids was prepared and examined for antiinflammatory activity. These compounds are vinylogous carbamic acids, and several displayed activity equal to phenylbutazone in the rat pleural effusion model. We report a photochemical method for the semipinacol rearrangement of unactivated allylic alcohols. A novel fluorous-tagged ammonia equivalent has been developed. It is based on a nitrogen-oxygen bond, which can be cleaved in a traceless manner by a molybdenum complex or samarium diiodide. The application in the synthesis of ureas, amides, sulfonamides, and carbamates is described. The scope of the fluorous N-O linker is exemplified by the synthesis of itopride, a drug used for the treatment of functional dyspepsia. Itopride was synthesized with the aid of fluorous purification methods and the product was isolated in good overall yield, with high purity.

BACKGROUND: Dengue fever is a major public health concern in Cambodia, with thousands of cases every year in urban, suburban and rural areas of the country. The main vector of dengue fever in Cambodia is Aedes aegypti. The organophosphate larvicide temephos and adulticides belonging to the pyrethroid family have been widely used for decades by public health authorities to fight dengue vectors, but resistance of Ae. aegypti to these insecticides has been previously described for Cambodia.

Most victims are intoxicated by drinking the poisonous material kept by the parents in soft drink bottles. The enantiomeric composition of glycidyl tosylate and glycidyl 3-nitrobenzenesulphonate is obtained using an enantiomeric HPLC column. The chiral oxiranes were resolved on a cellulose carbamate column using a mobile phase of hexane:2-propanol. The method is simple, sensitive and does not require derivatization.

Herein, we describe a mild method to prepare aliphatic and aromatic vinyl chlorides from their corresponding ketones via triphosgene-pyridine activation in dichloromethane at reflux. The mechanism of this reaction is proposed to involve formation of a putative α-chloro pyridinium carbamate intermediate, which appeared to readily undergo E2 elimination in the presence of pyridine.
