Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease is caused by a slow infectious pathogen, or prion. We found that purified fractions from the brains of two patients with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease contained protease-resistant proteins ranging in apparent molecular weight from 10,000 to 50,000. We compared the pregnancy rates and sperm characteristics of semen prepared by the albumin, Percoll, Puresperm, and swim-up methods. Semen analysis was performed by a computer-assisted system (CASA). We have assessed a new technique for the isolation of fetal erythroblasts from maternal blood for the non-invasive prenatal diagnosis of pregnancies at risk of beta-thalassaemia.
