The Stent That Went Too Far: Ascending Colon Perforation Following Gastric Stent Migration.

A 32-year-old male patient presented with symptoms of gastric outlet obstruction secondary to distal gastric adenocarcinoma. A fully covered self-expanding metal stent (SEMS) measuring 20 mm × 130 mm was placed to relieve obstruction and restore oral intake, with the aim of optimizing the patient for planned perioperative chemotherapy. The patient subsequently received neoadjuvant FLOT (fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel) chemotherapy as per recommendations of the multidisciplinary team and completed three cycles uneventfully. Before scheduled restaging imaging and completion

Ascending colon metastasis after breast cancer surgery: a case report and literature review.

BACKGROUND: Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women. The tumor is prone to metastasize in the brain, lung, liver, bone, and other organs; however, generally, it is less likely to metastasize in the digestive tract. Thus, breast cancer metastasizes to colon is rarely happened and easily ignored by clinicians. Such misdiagnosis may lead to delay the further diagnosis and treatment of patients, or even cause the life danger of patients due to the progress of the disease. Therefore, we propose such case reports to arouse clinicians' attention to the rare case of digestive tract metastasis

An Advanced Bioreactor Simulating Dynamic Physiological Conditions in the Human Ascending Colon: MimiCol3.

In recent years, the colon has become a hot topic in biopharmaceutical research as several in vitro models of the human colon have been presented. A major focus is on the characterization of the microbiota and its capabilities. The aim of the present study was to further develop the MimiCol, preserving its properties and accelerating data acquisition. Emphasis was placed on the simplicity of its design and easy scalability. To prove the viability of the concept, degradation of sulfasalazine was investigated, and the bacterial composition during the experiment was assessed by 16S rRNA sequencin

[A Case of Surgical Resection for Ascending Colon Cancer with Protein-Losing Gastroenteropathy].

An 84-year-old man visited our department for further examination of anemia and elevation of tumor marker levels. Colonoscopy revealed a huge circumferential type 3 tumor in the ascending colon. Significant hypoalbuminemia was observed at 1.1 g/dL, and prolonged hypoalbuminemia was considered to be caused by protein-losing gastroenteropathy due to the large tumor. In this case, we performed right hemicolectomy, and performed single-stage anastomosis. The resected specimen showed a huge type 3 lesion with a diameter of 140×120 mm in the ascending colon, which directory invaded to the cecum and

Intussusception in the ascending colon caused by cecal chronic diverticulitis: a case report.

Although intussusception in adults generally results from malignant tumors and polyps, intussusception caused by chronic diverticulitis is extremely rare. We present the case of a 59-year-old man treated with steroids and biopharmaceuticals at the Department of Dermatology for psoriasis vulgaris. Cecal diverticulitis frequently recurred, for which he was treated during follow-up. This time, endoscopy showed a circumferential stenosis in the ascending colon, and computed tomography showed the appearance of a target sign in the right colon. As a result, the patient was preoperatively diagnosed a

[A Case of Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of Ascending Colon with Early Recurrence after Surgery].

A 65-year-old male received the positive result of fecal occult blood. Colonoscopy was performed to reveal a tumor in the ascending colon. The result of biopsy was neuroendocrine carcinoma. Under the preoperative diagnosis of neuroendocrine carcinoma in the ascending colon, cT3N0M0, cStage Ⅱ, laparoscopic ileocecal resection with D3 lymph node dissection was performed. The pathological result was neuroendocrine carcinoma in the ascending colon, pT4aN2M0, pStage Ⅲc. The R0 resection was achieved. As adjuvant chemotherapy, the regimen of cisplatin plus irinotecan was administered for 4 courses.

Laparoscopic management of cecum and ascending colon hernia through the foramen of Winslow.

Herniation of gastrointestinal structures through the foramen of Winslow is rare, with patients presenting with nonspecific symptoms. We describe a 47-year-old woman who presented with generalized, intermittent, colicky abdominal pain for a duration of 4 days. An abdominal computed tomography scan revealed findings consistent with herniation of the ileocecal junction through the foramen of Winslow. Laparoscopic assisted internal hernia reduction with ileocecal resection and side-to-side ileocolic anastomosis were done. The cecum and terminal ileum were resected due to signs of ischemia. Her po

[A Case of Type 4 Ascending Colon Cancer Showing Early Postoperative Lymphangitis Carcinomatosa].

A 56-year-old man was admitted to our hospital because abdominal CT showed wall thickening of the ascending colon. Colonoscopyshowed type 4 colon cancer, diagnosed as poorlydifferentiated adenocarcinoma bybiopsy , with circumferential stenosis. Enhanced CT after admission also showed obstructive ileus and lymphadenopathy leading to a paraaortic lesion, but no other distant metastases were seen. Right hemicolectomywas performed. Histological examination showed poorlydifferentiated adenocarcinoma extending from the hepatic flexure to the terminal ileum, with marked invaded vessels and stromal fi

[A Case of Ascending Colon Cancer with Synchronous Liver Metastases and Peritoneal Dissemination].

The patient was a 73-year-old man with ascending colon cancer and synchronous liver metastases. A right hemicolectomy with a lymph node dissection was performed for the primary lesion. The resected specimen revealed a KRAS codon 12 mutation. After 6 courses of chemotherapy with capecitabine, oxaliplatin, and bevacizumab(Bv), we performed a partial hepatectomy and resection of the peritoneal dissemination. A computed tomography(CT)scan 5 months later revealed the recurrence of the liver metastases. After 8 courses of chemotherapy with 5-fluorouracil, Leucovorin, irinotecan, and Bv, we performed

[A resected case of gastric regional lymph node metastasis from ascending colon cancer].

A 67-year-old man underwent right hemi-colectomy for ascending colon cancer in 2007. One year later, he was diagnosed as early gastric cancer, and endoscopic submucosal dissection was performed. Pathologically, cancer cells were detected on the vertical margin, so we conducted distal gastrectomy. A dissected lymph node around the hepatic artery was histologically proved to contain adenocarcinoma cells. The cancer cells were positive for CK20. Colon cancer cells were also positive for CK20 but gastric cancer cells were focally positive for CK20. This pattern of CK staining suggested the ascendi

Xanthogranulomatous inflammation of ascending colon with mucosal involvement: report of a first case.

Xanthogranulomatous inflammation (XGI) is a rare phenomenon and can involve any organ system. The involvement of colon is rarely described in the literature. We herein report a case of XGI in a 60 year-old male who presented with friable ulceroinfiltrative mass in colon. Right hemicolectomy was performed with clinical and radiological suspicion of malignancy. This is the first reported case of XGI in ascending colon with mucosal involvement.

[Hansenula anomala fungemia in a patient undergoing IVH-treatment with ascending colon carcinoma].

A case of catheter-related fungemia due to Hansenula anomala is reported. A 61-year-old male was diagnosed as having stage 3 ascending colon carcinoma stenosing the colon severely and was admitted to our hospital to receive an operation of the carcinoma. Just after admission, an intravenous hyperalimentation (IVH) catheter was inserted and IVH was started to prevent development of ileus and to prepare for laparotomy. Nine days later, he developed a fever. On the next day, the IVH catheter was removed and cultures of blood and the catheter revealed the presence of yeast-like organisms that were

[Solitary diverticulum of ascending colon induced internal intestinal herniation: report of one case].

Colonic diverticula are generally multiple and occur most commonly in the descending and sigmoid colon. Solitary ascending colonic diverticulum is a rare pathology and presents several features which separate it from colonic diverticulosis. It is a true diverticulum. It is a congenital dysplasia that generally runs an asymptomatic course and becomes clinically important only when inflammatory, perforating, or hemorrhagic complications occurs and presents a difficult problem in diagnosis and management. An unusual case of 4 year old girl with solitary ascending colonic diverticulum was reported
