Neurasthenia is a diagnostic entity included in ICD-9 which is used in daily clinical practice in China and the Soviet Union, as well as some other Asian countries, so far as I know. In the present study Brazilian gamblers from different settings were compared on sociodemographic characteristics, gambling the behavior, and use of drugs. The SOGS was administered to 171 subjects at bingo (BG), video poker (VP), and horse-racing clubs (HR) of São Paulo. BG concentrated most women, VP the youngest and single gamblers, and HR the lowest income subjects. This study was carried out to determine the prevailing type of epilepsy in neurocysticercosis. We also evaluated if it could account for the predominance of generalized epilepsy in Peru. We studied the records and EEGs of 49 cases of neurocysticercosis, representing 5.9% of all hospital admissions. This article reviews the historical development of the category of panic disorder in the United States, particularly the shifting perspectives on both what causes panic and how the presence of panic should be determined.
