The crowned dens syndrome: a rare form of calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease.

The crowned dens syndrome has been termed as acute neck pain ascribed to CPPD deposits associated with a tomographic appearance of calcification surrounding the odontoid process. This rare entity resulting in cervical cord compression is generally seen in older female patients. We present a 26-year-old woman with cervical cord compression due to massive calcification in the periodontoid area and discuss the X-ray and CT findings of the disease.

Effect of fitting adjustments on compressive strength of a new foil crown system.

The effect of die spacing and precementation internal adjustments on the compressive strength of a new ceramic foil crown system was examined in vitro. Twenty-four ceramic foil crowns were made for identical stylized master dies made of polycarbonate filled with 30 wt% carbon. One half of the stone working dies were coated with die spacer and the remaining were left untreated. A special foil used for these crowns was adapted to the working dies under 2500 psi loading. A sculpturing device was used to standardize the size and shape of the ceramic foil crowns. Only crowns made on dies coated wit…

The crown odontoblasts of rat molars from primary dentinogenesis to complete eruption.

The involution of crown odontoblasts after primary dentinogenesis in teeth of limited eruption is discussed. The odontoblasts of rat first lower molars were analyzed morphometrically from the tenth day to the 40th day of age, i.e., from the late phase of primary dentinogenesis to complete eruption. All the organelles underwent atrophy, but at different rates. In particular, the membranes of the endoplasmic reticulum decreased progressively in surface area from day 10 to day 40, whereas those of the Golgi apparatus decreased significantly between day 10 and day 14, and then remained practically

Forced eruption combined with gingival fiberotomy. A technique for clinical crown lengthening.

A new approach to clinical crown lengthening has been developed and described. The technique combines controlled eruptive tooth movement and incision of the supracrestal gingival attachment. The procedure was performed in patients with severe destruction of a tooth crown and in whom clinical crown lengthening procedures were essential before the teeth could be properly restored. Controlled eruptive forces were activated by simple orthodontic appliances. During the active phase of forced eruption, repeated intrasulcular incisions through the junctional epithelium and the supracrestal connective

Human gingival attachment responses to subgingival crown placement. Marginal remodelling.

13 teeth in block were extracted from 2 patients. Their facial periodontal condition was essentially within normal clinical limits. Temporary crowns covering the bevel were placed below the base of the crevice 1 to 8 weeks prior to extraction. At time of extraction, all blocks were decalcified, the temporary crown dissolved, and the blocks prepared for histologic examinations using buccolingual cut, step serial sections. Histologic data revealed reformation of a new supracrestal attachment unit within 1 week following crown placement. The reformation of the gingival unit consisted of marginal …

Comparison of mesiodistal crown diameters of the deciduous and permanent teeth in Australian aboriginals.

Mesiodistal crown diameters of corresponding deciduous and permanent teeth were compared in 106 male and 66 female Aboriginal subjects from Yuendumu in the Northern Territory of Australia. On average, the size relationships were similar to those reported for Caucasoid groups but there was considerable variation between subjects, particularly in the deciduous first molar--permanent first premolar comparison.

Marginal adaptation and microleakage of resin-based composite provisional crowns fabricated by different techniques and materials.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the marginal adaptation and microleakage of resin-based composite provisional crowns fabricated using different techniques and materials and cemented with different temporary cements. One hundred twenty extracted molars prepared for zirconia crowns were allocated to three fabrication groups (n = 40): conventionally produced (CONV), computer-aided design and computer-aided manufacturing-milled (MILL), and three-dimensional-printed (PRNT). Each group was subdivided according to temporary cement type (n = 20): zinc oxide non-eugenol (ZONE) or dual-cure resin-…

Comparison of Marginal Adaptation in Lithium Disilicate Crowns Using Three Fabrication Techniques: An In Vitro Study.

Introduction The durability of all-ceramic crowns in clinical settings is fundamentally influenced by the precision of their margins, as significant marginal discrepancies can lead to the dissolution of cement, microleakage, the development of secondary caries, and periodontal issues. This research sought to evaluate the vertical marginal precision of lithium disilicate crowns fabricated via the traditional heat-press methodology, the computer-aided design-milled wax pattern subsequently subjected to heat-pressing, and the fully digital computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/C…
