Bowen disease - a squamous cell carcinoma in situ - is associated with oncogenic human papilloma viruses (HPV). The association is best established for genital Bowen disease but also holds for extragenital lesions. The immunomodulatory substance imiquimod is used for the treatment of HPV-induced skin disorders. In the case of paraungual Bowen disease, established treatment options as excision, cryosurgery, radiotherapy or laser treatment might cause persistent nail damage. We successfully treated HPV73-positive Bowen disease in this location with topical imiquimod.

Molluscum contagiosum is a viral disease frequently observed in children and adolescents with atopic dermatitis, in whom it poses a special therapeutic challenge. A 3-year-old girl presented with atopic eczema and disseminated molluscum contagiosum on her buttocks and upper legs. Topical application of 0.05% tretinoin resulted in a steady regression of the lesions. Other therapeutic options include topical anti-viral agents, cryosurgery, laser treatment, and curettage. Further, the therapeutic outcome is highly dependent on an adequate therapy of the concomitant atopic eczema.

Molluscum contagiosum is a viral disease that presents in a primary care setting as single or multiple wart-like lesions. We have seen an outbreak of Molluscum contagiosum in a small rural community, affecting 34 individuals. The most infected were children two-to nine-years-old. The diagnosis was made on clinical grounds. Spread appeared to be as a result of direct contact and by fomites. There was no evidence, in our study, of spread via swimming pool. Cryosurgery was used to treat our patients with Molluscum contagiosum.

Experimental cryosurgery of rabbit male accessory glands (RMAG) induced highly specific autoantibodies. They revealed in rabbit male accessory glands the presence of autoantigens when tested by passive cutaneous anaphylaxis reaction and passive haemagglutination test. Two case reports of an uncommon type of oral ulcerative lesion are presented. These lesions are of long duration, benign and reactive, and may clinically mimic a malignant ulcer. Histologically, these are deep lesions which exhibit 'pseudoinvasion' into skeletal muscle. Sporotrichosis is a subcutaneous mycosis caused by dimorphic fungi of the genus Sporothrix. The authors report a case of fixed cutaneous sporotrichosis with therapeutic failure after 18 months of itraconazole and terbinafine associated with cryosurgery. The patient was cured after the introduction of saturated potassium iodide solution.
