OBJECTIVE: CPNE7-derived functional peptide (CPNE7-DP) has been introduced as a bioactive therapeutics for dentin diseases. CPNE7-DP regenerates tubular dentin on the pulpal side and occlude dentinal tubules. CPNE7-DP was capable to treat dentin hypersensitivity typically associated with dentinal wear at the neck of the tooth. However, the role of CPNE7-DP in another common dentin disease, dental caries, remains uninvestigated. In this study, we evaluated the potential application of CPNE7-DP in dentin caries using an experimental dentin caries model in rats.
DESIGN: The stability of CPNE7-DP

This article reviews the diagnostic process, from the first clinically evident stages of the caries process to development of pulpal pathosis. The caries diagnostic process includes 4 interconnected components-staging caries lesion severity, assessing caries lesion activity, and risk assessments at the patient and tooth surface level - which modify treatment decisions for the patient. Pulpal pathosis is diagnosed as reversible pulpitis, irreversible pulpitis (asymptomatic), irreversible pulpitis (symptomatic), and pulp necrosis. Periapical disease is diagnosed as symptomatic apical periodontit

BACKGROUND: The basic anatomy of primary teeth gives an idea of an ideal access cavity with minimal loss of tooth structure. Central groove, cemento enamel junction (CEJ), roof and floor of the pulp chamber, and furcation area are significant landmarks in tooth morphology. In primary teeth, the pulp occupies a higher volume of the crown than permanent teeth do, and with progressing caries, the comparatively thin layer of hard mineralized tissue between the inner and outer surfaces causes the tooth pulp to become involved very quickly. The thickness of mineralized tissue surrounding the pulp va

BACKGROUND: Immature teeth with necrotic pulps present multiple challenges to clinicians. In such cases, regenerative endodontic procedures (REPs) may be a favorable strategy. Cells, biomaterial scaffolds, and signaling molecules are three key elements of REPs. Autologous human dental pulp cells (hDPCs) play an important role in pulp regeneration. In addition, autologous platelet concentrates (APCs) have recently been demonstrated as effective biomaterial scaffolds in regenerative dentistry, whereas the latest generation of APCs-concentrated growth factor (CGF), especially liquid phase CGF (LP

The present investigation describes how intradental afferent C-fibers can be identified and characterized in the anaesthetized cat. Functional single fibers innervating the lower canine tooth were recorded from filaments split from the inferior alveolar nerve. Fibers responding to monopolar electrical stimulation of the tooth were classified as slowly and fast conducting according to their conduction velocity (c.v.). The axonal c.v. was determined for 31 slowly conducting fibers by electrical stimulation of the nerve. Sixty-eight percent of these proved to be C-fibers. The slowly conducting fi

BACKGROUND: Maxillary sinus augmentation is a routine procedure performed in implant dentistry in cases with sinus pneumatization. This study presents a series of clinical cases in which tooth devitalization occurred in conjunction with sinus augmentation.
METHODS: In the three cases presented, a sinus-lift procedure was performed that resulted in devitalization of the adjacent teeth. Patients were referred to an endodontist for evaluation and treatment. Vitality of the teeth was determined by the use of a cold test, electric pulp test, and cavity test. The pulp was considered to be necrotic

Pulp canal obliteration (PCO) presents itself as a frequent pulp complication in traumatized primary teeth, characterized as a progressive deposition of hard tissue in the root canal. In this context, this study aimed to evaluate the association between PCO due to the occurrence of traumatic dental injuries (TDI) in deciduous teeth and specific factors. For this, a retrospective study was carried out through 210 medical records selected from the Dental Trauma Care Program from 2012 to 2019. After applying the eligibility criteria, 371 deciduous teeth were included. Statistical analysis was per

Regenerative endodontic therapy that is based on the use of stem cells or their derivatives to induce dentin-pulp complex regeneration has recently gained substantial interest. This study aimed to compare the effect of preconditioning through odontogenesis (OD) and/or low-level laser therapy photobiostimulation (LLLT) of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) on the regenerative potentials of their derived small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) aiming to develop a novel pulp capping therapy. In the current study, hDPSCs were subjected to OD, LLLT, or dual preconditioning protocols before the isola

Scaffolds used to receive stem cells are a promising perspective of tissue regeneration research, and one of the most effective solutions to rebuild organs. In the near future will be possible to reconstruct a natural tooth using stems cells, but to avoid an immune-defensive response, sterilize the scaffold is not only desired, but also essential to be successful. A study confirmed stem cells extracted from rat's natural teeth, and implanted into the alveolar bone, could differentiate themselves in dental cells, but the scaffold's chemistry, geometry, density, morphology, adherence, biocompati

The clinical translation of regenerative endodontics demands further development of suitable scaffolds. Here, we assessed the possibility of using silk fibroin scaffold for pulp regeneration with dental pulp stem cells (DPSCs) and basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) in ectopic root canal transplantation model. Porous silk fibroin scaffolds were fabricated using freeze-drying technique (with or without bFGF incorporation), and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. DPSCs were isolated, characterized, seeded onto scaffolds, and inserted
