Expert consensus on pulpotomy in the management of mature permanent teeth with pulpitis.

Pulpotomy, which belongs to vital pulp therapy, has become a strategy for managing pulpitis in recent decades. This minimally invasive treatment reflects the recognition of preserving healthy dental pulp and optimizing long-term patient-centered outcomes. Pulpotomy is categorized into partial pulpotomy (PP), the removal of a partial segment of the coronal pulp tissue, and full pulpotomy (FP), the removal of whole coronal pulp, which is followed by applying the biomaterials onto the remaining pulp tissue and ultimately restoring the tooth. Procedural decisions for the amount of pulp tissue remo

Can lingual spurs alter the oral health-related quality of life during anterior open bite interceptive treatment? A systematic review.

INTRODUCTION: The use of lingual spurs has been described as one efficient option, with great stability of results, but with scarce information of toleration for use in the mixed and permanent dentition phases. OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to assess the impact of lingual spurs on the oral health-related quality of life of children and/or adolescents during anterior open bite treatment. METHODS: The review was recorded in the PROSPERO database. Eight electronic databases and partial gray literature were searched, without restrictions until march 2022. A manual search was also perf

Regional Odontodysplasia: A Systematic Review of Case Reports.

Regional odontodysplasia is a rare developmental disorder characterised by hypoplasia and hypomineralisation of enamel and dentin. Our systematic review aimed to organise the knowledge on localisation, symptomatology and treatment methods in patients with regional odontodysplasia based on case reports published in the databases PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science. Case reports were described in 28 different countries, considering 180 patients (including 91 females). Regional odontodysplasia occurs mainly in both deciduous and permanent dentition (66.1%). The affected teeth were observed more fre

Symptoms of the Eruption of Permanent Teeth.

This prospective study examined a population of 520 urban and rural children aged 5 to 9 years. Every 2−4 weeks, the clinical symptoms accompanying primary tooth replacement such as a cough, a runny nose, pain, and body temperature were assessed in each child’s medical records. The authors were able to show in a statistically significant manner that the frequency, time, and type of cough were strongly related to the type of erupting teeth (p < 0.001 for each relationship). A cough dependent on the type of erupting teeth was observed in 86% to 92% of the examined children, with a morning bronch

Orthodontic treatment for posterior crossbites.

BACKGROUND: A posterior crossbite occurs when the top back teeth bite inside the bottom back teeth. The prevalence of posterior crossbite is around 4% and 17% of children and adolescents in Europe and America, respectively. Several treatments have been recommended to correct this problem, which is related to such dental issues as tooth attrition, abnormal development of the jaws, joint problems, and imbalanced facial appearance. Treatments involve expanding the upper jaw with an orthodontic appliance, which can be fixed (e.g. quad-helix) or removable (e.g. expansion plate). This is the third u

Endodontic management of traumatized permanent teeth: a comprehensive review.

The pulp plays a key role in the treatment of traumatic dental injuries (TDIs) and is strongly associated with the outcome, particularly in severe cases. A correct pulp diagnosis is essential as it forms the basis for developing the appropriate management strategy. However, many TDIs are complex, and their treatment requires a profound knowledge of the physiological and pathological responses of the affected tissues. This comprehensive review will look at the dentine-pulp complex and its interaction with the surrounding tissues following TDIs. The literature up to 2020 was reviewed based on se

Widespread Sporadic Type Burkitt Lymphoma Presenting as Dental Mobility and Premature Eruption of Permanent Teeth in a Child.

Burkitt lymphoma (BL) is a rare and aggressive malignant neoplasm frequently involving the jawbones in children. The main purpose of this article is to report the case of a nine-year-old boy with widespread BL diagnosed through oral findings. The patient was referred after complaining of dental mobility for two weeks. The physical examination revealed premature eruption of permanent teeth. The periapical radiographic examination showed a diffuse bone rarefaction in the involved area. An incisional biopsy was performed, leading to the diagnosis of BL. The patient was then treated with chemother

Partial and total luxations of permanent teeth in children: Clinical management.

Dentoalveolar trauma, very frequent during childhood and adolescence, generally results in tooth fracture and/or partial or total luxation. Management of the pulpal and periodontal aspects of these traumatic cases is complex. The prognosis is improved if treatment is initiated promptly. Multidisciplinary management of these situations and regular patient follow-up make it possible to detect complications quickly and take the necessary action to maintain the teeth as long as possible in a healthy periodontal environment that allows harmonious development and the application of appropriate treat

Correlation between permanent tooth eruption pattern and the predominance of the motor function laterality.

OBJECTIVES: To asses whether dental eruption order can play a role in the early diagnosis of crossed laterality. STUDY DESIGN: Dental eruption pattern along with eye, ear, hand and foot lateralism were examined on 131 children between 6 to 8 years old from public schools from a multietnic population area of Barcelona city. Statistic methods (Statgraphics Plus 5.1 program) were used to evaluate data recollected. RESULTS: Only foot and dentition lateralities behave as independent variables regarding hand laterality. So dental eruption laterality (along with the foot one) would be one of the pa

Spontaneous reeruption of a secondarily retained permanent lower molar and an unusual migration of a lower third molar.

Secondary retention refers to cessation of eruption of a tooth after its emergence. It occurs mainly in the deciduous dentition, but it is also seen on rare occasions in the permanent dentition. Although ankylosis has been suggested as the main etiologic factor, the exact biologic mechanism of secondary retention is not yet known. This article presents a case of spontaneous reeruption of a secondarily retained permanent molar, which is very rare. It also describes an unusual migration of a lower third molar in the same patient.

The dentition: the outcomes of morphogenesis leading to variations of tooth number, size and shape.

The clinical importance of variations of tooth number, size and shape is seen in many dental disciplines. Early diagnosis allows optimal patient management and treatment planning, with intervention at an appropriate time to prevent complications in development and so reduce later treatment need. Understanding the process of dental morphogenesis and the variations in outcomes is an important contribution to the multidisciplinary clinical team approach to treatment. Tooth number, size and shape are determined during the initiation and morphogenetic stages of odontogenesis. The molecular evidence

[Eruption times of permanent teeth in children and adolescents of Paderborn, Westphalia, Germany].

The eruption times of permanent teeth and the sequence of tooth eruption were investigated in 1535 individuals aged 3 to 24 years. Wisdom teeth were excluded from the evaluation. All individuals were inhabitants of Paderborn, Westphalia, Germany. The results were compared to results of other German studies on tooth eruption of the 20th century. The teeth emerged symmetrically in each jaw. However, teeth erupted earlier in the mandible than in the maxilla. Teeth erupted earlier in females than in males. The sequence of emerging teeth in the maxilla is identical in both sexes: first molar, centr

Fourth molars: a clinical study.

Supernumerary teeth may be found in both the primary and permanent dentition, although they are more common in the permanent dentition. Presence of a fourth molar is rare, and such a tooth is almost invariably impacted. Dental practitioners should be aware of the possibility of encountering this rare supernumerary, its diagnosis and treatment. The authors of this article conducted a survey of patients in Montreal, looking specifically at the prevalence, aetiology, diagnosis, pathology and treatment of fourth molars. Their findings are reported here, and compared with data from the literature o

Management of Complicated Crown Fracture and Associated Impacted Mesiodens- Case Report with 3yrs Follow-up.

Mesiodens being the most common type of supernumerary tooth, usually results in malocclusion, poor aesthetics and cyst formation if it is not corrected. The management protocol involves surgical removal. The situation can be complicated in young permanent dentition where there are a lot of chances of damage to the permanent dentition during surgical removal of impacted teeth. This article reports a case of impacted mesiodens which was diagnosed during management of complicated crown fracture. The case was followed up to 3years which showed a good bone formation. The article highlights the need

Prevalence of dental caries and its association with molar incisor hypomineralization among 7-10-year-old children in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. An epidemiological study.

Molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) is a developmental defect in enamel that affects the oral health of children. This study assessed the prevalence of dental caries among 7-10-year-olds and its association with MIH in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. This epidemiological study used stratified random sampling of 12 primary schools in Jeddah city. To recruit children, two calibrated examiners in classrooms performed dental examinations for caries using the World Health Criteria and MIH based on the MIH criteria of the European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry (EAPD). Among 2010 children, caries prevalenc
