[Occupational allergic "march". Rapid evolution of contact dermatitis to ammonium persulfate into airborne contact dermatitis with rhinitis and asthma in a hairdresser].

BACKGROUND: Hairdressers are exposed to irritants and allergenic compounds that may cause contact dermatitis, rhinitis and asthma. OBJECTIVES: In this paper we describe the case of a female, age 33 years, who developed contact dermatitis after 10 years of exposure to ammonium persulfate. METHODS: After 7 months of progressively extensive and persistent skin lesions, respiratory symptoms appeared that were related to the occupational exposure (on-off test). SIDAPA and specific occupational patch test for hairdressers and occupational challenge with ammonium persulfate were performed. Clinical

Occupational Contact Dermatitis in Dental Personnel: A Retrospective Analysis of the North American Contact Dermatitis Group Data, 2001 to 2018.

BACKGROUND: Dental personnel are at risk of developing occupational contact dermatitis. OBJECTIVES: The aims of the study were to determine prevalence of occupational contact dermatitis in dental personnel referred for patch testing and to characterize relevant allergens and sources. METHODS: The study used a retrospective, cross-sectional analysis of the North American Contact Dermatitis Group (NACDG) data, 2001-2018. RESULTS: Of 41,109 patients, 585 (1.4%) were dental personnel. Dental personnel were significantly more likely than nondental personnel to be female (75.7% vs 67.4%, P < 0.00

Occupational contact dermatitis in a gender perspective: North East Italian data 1996-2016.

BACKGROUND: Occupational contact dermatitis (OCD) ranks high among occupational diseases in Europe, but little is known as regards OCD and jobs in a gender perspective. OBJECTIVES: To evaluate sex prevalence of OCD according to occupational sectors and agents involved. 27381 patients (1996-2016) with suspected irritant/allergic contact dermatitis (ICD-ACD) were evaluated in North-Eastern Italy. Each patient underwent: a standardized questionnaire, a dermatologist/occupational physician evaluation and a patch test. RESULTS: Females were younger at diagnosis (35.2 ± 11.6 years vs 37.7 ± 12.6 i

Effectiveness of interventions for preventing occupational irritant hand dermatitis: a quantitative systematic review.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this review was to identify, appraise and synthesize the best available evidence on the effectiveness of moisturizers, barrier creams, protective gloves, skin protection education and complex interventions (a combination of two or more of the interventions listed here) in preventing occupational irritant hand dermatitis (OIHD) in wet workers, comparing each intervention to an alternative intervention or to usual care (workers' regular skin care regimen). INTRODUCTION: The most significant occupational skin problem potentially encountered in wet work occupations is occupa

The Role of Susceptibility in the Association Between Exposures and Occupational Contact Dermatitis: A Scoping Review.

The objective of this review is to identify individual susceptibility factors and determine their role in the association between work-related exposures and contact dermatitis (CD). A scoping review was conducted using Medline, Embase, and CINAHL. Cohort and case-control studies were included for all types of CD, and cross-sectional studies for allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). In the absence of meta-analysis, we drew qualitative inferences summarising the findings. Twenty-one studies, primarily cross-sectional (n = 18), investigated how 44 individual susceptibility factors influenced associa

[Work-related contact dermatitis: interest of an occupational medicine approach in the clinical pathway].

Work-related contact dermatitis is frequent and might reduce the professional activity. Through the presentation of a clinical situation and its handling, this article shows the added value of an occupational medicine intervention. This procedure integrating a field observation has shown useful solutions after the medical handling and the maintenance of employment, although they were not always where we expected them.

[Research progress on the immunological pathogenesis of occupational medicamentosa-like dermatitis due to trichloroethylene].

Occupational exposure to trichloroethylene can induce a series of immune diseases which include systemic rash, multiple system and organ damage, which are defined as occupational medicamentosa-like dermatitis due to trichloroethylene (OMLDT) . This article reviews the research progress of the role of T cell immunity, humoral immunity and complement system in the immunological pathogenesis of OMLDT to provide theoretical basis for the diagnosis and treatment of OMLDT.
