The authors report the first adolescent (to our knowledge) in Belgium to receive duplimumab for eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) and eosinophilic duodenitis (EoD). EoE was diagnosed in 2020 in a 13-year-old boy by endoscopy with biopsies following complaints of abdominal pain. Several treatments (omeprazole, topical steroids, and elemental diet) have been tried without adequate and sustained success. A case of a 62-year-old man with Candida krusei peritonitis secondary to duodenal perforation due to Candida duodenitis that was successfully treated with a 14-day course of caspofungin is reported. The potential role of Candida infection in the pathogenesis of peptic ulcers and duodenal perforation is considered. If this role is confirmed, antifungal treatment should be included in the therapeutic armamentarium of peptic disease.

Duodenitis/proximal jejunitis syndrome (DPJ) is a small intestinal disease of horses that is associated with depression and copious gastric reflux. A clinical, endoscopic and histological study of gastritis and duodenitis was carried out in 50 patients. The endoscopic diagnosis of mucosal inflammation was found to be highly reproducible. However there was poor correlation between endoscopic and histological diagnoses of gastritis or duodenitis. Neither endoscopic nor histological gastritis or duodenitis correlated with symptoms. Twenty-one adult outpatients with dyspepsia and endoscopically proven duodenitis without chronic ulceration completed a double-blind trial of either cimetidine (1 g/day) or placebo. Treatment with cimetidine for 6 weeks resulted in a significant improvement in symptoms and in the endoscopic appearance of the duodenitis when compared to treatment with placebo. The symptomatic and endoscopic improvement, however, was not associated with any significant change in the histological grading of the duodenitis.

Biopsy specimens have been taken from five standard sites in the stomach and from the duodenal bulb in order to investigate the association of gastritis and duodenitis with duodenal ulcer. Twenty patients with chronic duodenal ulcer were investigated in this manner and in addition had gastric secretion tests and a radio-immune assay of serum gastrin under differing conditions. Duodenal-type follicular lymphoma is a newly recognized and rare variant of follicular lymphoma with a good prognosis. Patients may present with non-specific gastrointestinal symptoms, but they are often asymptomatic. Diagnosis usually occurs incidentally during EGD when duodenal polyps are biopsied. A 73-year-old man was hospitalized with upper abdominal pain of 1-month duration. Gastroscopy revealed a pedunculated polypoid mass with smooth surface and slightly yellowish color in the duodenal bulb. A long strip shaped mass with very low density in the duodenal was found in abdominal computed tomography . The mass was removed successful by endoscopic mucosal resection. The resected specimen measured 1.5 × 3.0-cm. Histopathology examination revealed a tumor in the submucosa which composed of mature adipose tissue and proliferative blood vessels. The final diagnosis was duodenal angiolipoma.
