Sclerosing Adenosis of the Prostate-A Benign Lesion Similar to Prostate Cancer: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Sclerosing adenosis of the prostate (SAP) is a rare benign non-neoplastic small acinar hyperplasia. Like sclerosing adenosis of the breast, which is confused with breast cancer, SAP is a trap in the pathological differential diagnosis of benign and malignant lesions of the prostate. We report such a case to help colleagues better distinguish and diagnose such diseases. A 75-year-old patient with SAP had a prostate specific antigen (PSA) level of 11.0 ng/mL, and he had been suffering from progressive dysuria for 3 years. The central glandular area and the right periphery of the prostate were fo…

[Giant bladder stone].

A 67 years old patient has consulted for hypogastric pain, associated with a pollakiuria running for more than 12 months. The medical story reported genital prolapse, some episodes of haematuria and dysuria. Pelvic ultrasound showed a voluminous image of lithiasic appearance with irregular borders. A cystotomy was performed under perimedullary anesthesia allowing the extraction of a giant bladder stone measuring 7.2 cm as major axis and 5.5 cm for small axis.

[Tenesmus and stranguria in a heifer caused by a urachal cyst in the bladder wall].

A 10-month-old Brown Swiss heifer was referred to our clinic be- cause of pollakiuria, stranguria and tenesmus. Ultrasonography and endoscopy revealed a cyst-like lesion at the apex of the urinary bladder. The apex of the bladder was surgically removed with the patient in dorsal recumbency under general anaesthesia. Histological examination revealed a cyst lined with urothelium in the wall of the urinary bladder. The heifer was discharged 9 days after surgery. According to the owner's information the animal did not show any clinical signs 6 months later.

Surgical Management of Endometriosis Involving the Bladder and Ureter.

BACKGROUND: Endometriosis is a chronic, debilitating condition affecting up to 10% of reproductive-age women. Urinary tract endometriosis is found in 1%-6% of women diagnosed with pelvic endometriosis, with the most common sites being the bladder (70%-85%), ureter (9%-23%), and kidney (4%). Patients typically present with symptoms such as lower abdominal pain, dysuria, and urgency. Unfortunately, urinary tract endometriosis is often asymptomatic, potentially leading to silent obstructive uropathy and kidney failure. OBJECTIVE: To demonstrate a step-by-step approach for the surgical management…

Case report of avascular necrosis of the glans penis after PAE embolization.

BACKGROUND: Prostate artery embolization (PAE) is a relatively safe and effective alternative method for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms secondary to benign prostatic hyperplasia. The adverse events caused by PAE are primarily mild, including urinary tract infection, acute urinary retention, dysuria, fever, etc. Severe complications, such as nontarget organ embolism syndrome or penile glans ischemic necrosis, are rare. Here, we report a case of severe ischemic necrosis of the glans penis after PAE and review the literature. CASE PRESENTATION: An 86-year-old male patient was admi…

Childhood and adolescent idiopathic urethritis: what does the current literature say?

INTRODUCTION: Idiopathic urethritis (IU) is a known entity in the childhood and adolescent age groups and is described as blood spotting of the underwear in these populations. Typically, IU presents clinically as terminal void haematuria or blood spotting, accompanied with dysuria, occasional suprapubic pain and rarely constitutional symptoms. Sometimes IU may progress to formation of urethral strictures. It carries a high morbidity because of its chronicity and recurrent course, which often persists to puberty. In spite of no single aetiology being confirmed, several treatment approaches have…

Flavoxate in the symptomatic treatment of overactive bladder: a meta-analysis.

OBJECTIVE: Overactive bladder is a syndrome of urinary frequency and urgency, with or without urge incontinence, in the absence of local pathological factors. Since multiple causes are responsible for OAB, it requires proper diagnosis and comprehensive management. For decades, flavoxate is a globally used and accepted molecule by the urologists and the general physicians for the symptomatic treatment of OAB. In spite of its extensive use in OAB, a meta-analysis of the available publications for efficacy, safety and tolerability of flavoxate has not been conducted. This paper evaluates the stre

[Urological symptoms due to rectus sheath haematoma].

Two men presented at the Accident & Emergency Department with lower urinary tract symptoms. The first patient was a 76-year-old male with reddish urine and lower abdominal pain. A CT-scan revealed a tumorous mass related to the bladder. The second patient was a 61-year-old male with dysuria and lower abdominal pain. In both patients the complaints were due to a rectus sheath haematoma. Rectus sheath haematoma is a rare condition caused by damage of the epigastric vessels or a rupture of the rectus abdominis muscle. Voiding problems can arise when the haematoma extends into the prevesical (Retz…

[Urethral prolapse in a girl with urogenital bleeding].

Urethral prolapse is an uncommon condition that involves the distal urethra. It occurs most often in prepuberal black girls and in postmenopausal women. The reason for consultation is usually genital bleeding and/or dysuria. The treatment includes from conservative therapy to surgical interventions. We present the case of an 11-year-old white girl who came to the Emergency Room due to vaginal discharge for 6 days and genital bleeding for 3 days that was accompanied by stabbing pain in genital region, with occasional dysuria. A circular eversion of the urethral mucosa was observed, so the patie…

Urethral Calculi in a 7-Year-old Boy Presenting as a Large Scrotal Mass After Surgery of Exstrophy-epispadias Repair.

Urethral calculi are extremely rare in pediatric population and are usually presented with dysuria, hematuria, lower urinary tract obstruction, and rarely as a scrotal mass. We here report a giant primary urethral stone presenting as a scrotal mass that developed in the penile urethra resulting from a postsurgical complication of exstrophy-epispadias repair. A 7-year-old boy was admitted with the complaint of scrotal mass and dysuria. Computerized tomography confirmed giant urethral stone impacted to diverticulum of urethra. Cystoscopy revealed a nonobstructed stone in the urethra related to a…

Prostatic-type polyp located in the bladder of an adolescent: A case report and overview.

Prostatic-type polyps are uncommon lesions in the urinary tract. They are sometimes found in the lower urinary tract, particularly on the posterior urethra, but are rarely found in the bladder. We report a case of 15-year-old boy who presented with dysuria. Routine ultrasonography showed a mass in the bladder arising near the internal orifice of urethra. Further inspection with cystoscopy followed by transurethral resection and pathology confirmed the lesion to be a prostatic-type polyp. An overview of other similar case studies showed that the pathogenesis of this condition is controversial, …

Relationship of urinary pH to symptoms of 'cystitis'.

The pH of urine samples from patients suffering symptoms suggesting urinary infection (e.g. dysuria, frequency, urgency) was measured while the patients were symptomatic and again when they had become asymptomatic. There was no correlation between the urine pH and the incidence or number of symptoms. No differences were observed between either the distribution or means of urine pH values in symptomatic and asymptomatic patients. There were also no significant differences in either symptomatology or urine pH between patients with significant bacteriuria and those without significant bacteriuria…

Urethral transitional cell carcinoma in a cat.

A 15-year-old, male neutered cat was referred for investigation of dysuria. A retrograde urethrography was performed which showed two space-occupying masses within the lumen of the mid-to-proximal urethra. Exploratory coeliotomy revealed two urethral masses. Segmental urethrectomy was performed to resect the mass, and the lower urinary tract was reconstructed by vesico-urethral anastomosis. Histopathology showed the mass to be a transitional cell carcinoma with incomplete surgical margins. Tumour regrowth was suspected when dysuria was found approximately 318 days after surgery. Clinical signs…
