Thirty-nine infants suspected of having cow's milk protein intolerance (C.M.P.I.) were investigated, and jejunal biopsies were performed before and after challenge with cow's milk. Thirty patients had significant jejunal mucosal damage after milk challenge, but symptoms of diarrhoea and vomiting developed in only twenty-two. A case of atopic dermatitis with it's classics signs in face and extremities, with an eight years evolution is reported. It was treated with corticoids (local and systemic) with no favorable results. In the allergic investigation it was found a sensibilization to nickel. She was cured by eliminating the nickel from her diet and from the objects in contact. Research into the use of fluorides is dynamic and ongoing. As a consequence, anyone interested in clinical application must be up to date in the current literature. A number of other trace elements have also been found to have impact, particularly on the disease of dental caries. Therefore, to treat oral disease effectively with these products, it is important that the clinician keep current with published studies. Fluorides are, at present, a major therapeutic measure in the treatment of both dental caries and periodontal disease. However, fluorides will only reduce disease, not eliminate it.

The aim of the study was to assess the effect of food, respiratory and contact allergens, infections, vaccinations, stress and other factors that exacerbate skin symptoms in 50 children diagnosed with food allergy. Individual daily cards of observation were used in the analysis. In 54 children with coeliac disease, mild iron deficiency anaemia or evidence of iron deficiency without anaemia were common at the time of diagnosis. Treatment with a gluten-free diet without iron medication eliminated all evidence of iron deficiency and completely normalized laboratory values. Subsequent challenge with gluten resulted in the rapid reappearance of suboptimal iron balance as evidenced by a decrease in serum ferritin concentration.

Elevated homocysteine (Hcy) concentrations are associated with increased risk of several chronic diseases.
