An all 2D bio-inspired gustatory circuit for mimicking physiology and psychology of feeding behavior.

Animal behavior involves complex interactions between physiology and psychology. However, most AI systems neglect psychological factors in d … r emotional neuromorphic systems with broad implications for human health. The concept of gustatory emotional intelligence can extend to other sensory systems, benefiting future humanoid AI.

Al-assisted symbolic healing for digital natives: A Jungian perspective based on the S-O-R and Fogg behavior models.

This study examines the design of emotional healing interventions for Generation Z individuals experiencing anxiety and investigates the mechanisms of AI-assisted collaborative drawing in addressing their needs for personalized and interactive emotional regulation. Drawing on Jungian theory of artistic compensation to evaluate AI-based art therapy, and integrating the S-O-R (Stimulus-Organism-Response) model and the FBM (Fogg Behavior Model), we analyzed how the intelligent mechanisms of AI collaborative painting contribute to emotional healing. We established three art therapy groups-generati

Modulation of negative emotions through anodal tDCS over the right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex.

Increasing evidence suggests that the right ventrolateral prefrontal cortex (rVLPFC) plays a critical role in emotion regulation, in particular concerning negative feelings. In the present research, we applied anodal transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) over the rVLPFC with a twofold purpose. First, we aimed at exploring the feasibility of modulating the subjective experience of emotions through tDCS in healthy participants. Second, we wanted to assess which specific emotion can be regulated (and which cannot) with this brain stimulation approach. We designed a double-blind, between-

Repertoires of emotion regulation: A person-centered approach to assessing emotion regulation strategies and links to psychopathology.

Despite growing research on emotion regulation (ER) strategies and psychopathology, research has primarily focused on identifying one-to-one associations between ER strategies and symptoms. Thus, little is known about how patterns in the repertoires of ER strategies are associated with different mental disorders. We utilised latent class analysis to identify distinct repertoires of ER strategies, and their links with various psychopathology domains (i.e., anxiety, depression, disordered eating, borderline personality). Participants (N = 531) reported on their use of seven ER strategies in six

Cognitive function in patients with epidermolysis bullosa: social adjustment and emotional problems.

BACKGROUND: Children with Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) suffer from an intractable, burdensome skin disease that may result in cognitive as well as social and emotional problems. PATIENTS: To assess cognitive problems in patients with EB, we investigated 20 affected children and adolescents, 6-17 years of age (mean: 10.8 years; SD: 3.4 years), and 24 healthy controls (6-15 years, mean: 10.9 years; SD: 3.0 years) for cognitive abilities. Additionally, parents were asked to assess social and emotional problems of their children. METHODS: Patients and controls were assessed using the Wechsler Inte

Frequency study of facial electromyography signals with respect to emotion recognition.

Emotional intelligence is one of the key research areas in human-computer interaction. This paper reports the development of an emotion recognition system using facial electromyogram (EMG) signals focusing the ambiguity on the frequency ranges used by different research works. The six emotional states (happiness, sadness, fear, surprise, disgust, and neutral) were elicited in 60 subjects using audio visual stimuli. Statistical features were extracted from the signals at high, medium, low, and very low frequency levels. They were then classified using four classifiers - naïve Bayes, regression …

Exploring Dyslexia Risk Through Psycholinguistic and Orofacial Correlates: Neurodevelopmental Insights Toward a Personalized Medicine Approach.

Background/Objectives: Dyslexia and dysgraphia are common childhood neurodevelopmental disorders characterized by persistent reading and writing difficulties, despite normal intelligence and access to education. While typically described as cognitive-linguistic deficits, emerging research suggests potential links to orofacial dysfunction and emotional regulation issues. This study examines associations between stomatognathic anomalies, emotional dysregulation, and early indicators of dyslexia-dysgraphia risk in preschool children, aiming to strengthen early screening and intervention strategie

[Correlations among the main syndromes of chronic alcoholism].

Alcohol addiction seen in alcoholics is shown to constitute a part of alcoholic psychic degradation; it is reflected in emotional and volitional derangements, and determines the nosologic specificity of this degradation. Intellectual and mnemic disturbances are regarded as nonspecific psychoorganic ones, and they are directly associated with the volume of alcohol consumed and the severity of intoxication. Similar relations were revealed between alcohol addiction and the alcohol abstinence syndrome: alcohol addiction is combined with nosologically neutral post-intoxication disturbances and impa

[Psychometric results in patients with Klinefelter syndrome].

In psychodiagnostic investigation 12 Klinefelter-patients and 12 psychosomatic patients matched for age and socioeconomic status were compared. Our results are generally in agreement with the observations in recent research concerning some personality traits. 1. The intelligence of Klinefelter-patients rather meets the mark of practical than educational standards. Therefore these patients quite often fail at school, which otherwise is adequate to the level of their general-IQ. 2. Klinefelter-patients generally score low in the masculinity-scale. Equally remarkable is the tendency towards intro

Frontal EEG correlation based human emotion identification and classification.

Humans express their feelings and intentions of their actions or communication through emotions. Recent advancements in technology involve machines in human communication in day-to-day life. Thus, understanding of human emotions by machines will be very helpful in assisting the user in a far better way. Various physiological and non-physiological signals can be used to make the machines to recognize the emotion of a person. The identification of emotional content in the signals is crucial to understand emotion and the machines act with emotional intelligence at appropriate times, thus providin…

Emotional variables, dropout and academic performance in Spanish nursing students.

The dropout of university studies is a main concern in many countries, also for Health Sciences degrees. The reviews on dropout in all university degrees as well as nursing generally show multidimensional causes with factors related both to institutional and students' characteristics. Regarding the personal variables of students, researchers have focused on financial, family and personality features. Far less attention has been devoted to emotional variables. This study aims to explore whether individual variables of the emotional domain such as perceived emotional intelligence, dispositional …

Pathways to social anxiety: the role of reinforcement sensitivities and emotion regulation.

Past research has demonstrated a strong relationship between threat sensitivity and social anxiety; however, the relationship between reward sensitivity and social anxiety is less clear. Further, the role that emotion regulation (ER) may play in the expression of social anxiety disorder (SAD) is rarely considered. The current study tested whether two emotion regulation strategies (emotional suppression and cognitive reappraisal) mediated associations between threat sensitivity and reward sensitivity and social anxiety in a community sample (402 adults, 78% female; Mage=32.49, S.D.age=11.53). The multiple systems model of angry rumination.

Angry rumination is perseverative thinking about a personally meaningful anger-inducing event and is a risk factor for aggression. This article presents a new model for understanding angry rumination across five levels of analysis: cognitive, neurobiological, affective, executive control, and behavioral. The type of rumination that occurs at the cognitive level moderates affective responding and neurobiological activation, which influences executive control and aggression. Angry rumination recruits brain regions implicated in cognitive control, emotion regulation, negative affect, physiologica

Alcohol consumers' receptivity to artificial intelligence-generated alcohol-cancer risk messages: An experimental study.

BACKGROUND: Alcohol is a group 1 carcinogen linked to seven cancers, yet awareness of this risk remains low in the United State. Identifying effective alcohol-cancer communication strategies is a public health priority. The objective of this study was to test the effects of message specificity (general vs. cancer-specific) and visual intensity (text-only, neutral pictorial, graphic pictorial) on message receptivity (attention, emotional reactions) and precursors of behavior (harm perception; intentions to reduce, limit, or stop drinking) among moderate and heavy alcohol consumers. METHODS: Ei

Extracting common processes across psychotherapies through AI.

INTRODUCTION: Psychological treatments are effective in addressing mental disorders. However, they often remain confined within two primary limitations: diagnostic categories and theoretical frameworks. This study aimed to investigate how artificial intelligence could help transcend these boundaries. METHOD: We recruited 125 psychotherapists. For each psychotherapeutic approach, we asked them to describe: (1) the proposed processes underlying psychopathology; (2) the techniques employed in treatment; and (3) potential factors contributing to resistance. RESULTS: By applying topic modeling te
