An evaluation of the validity in infants of standard computations for the correction of white cell counts in blood-contaminated cerebrospinal fluid (traumatic lumbar puncture) was undertaken. In 39 infants with significant blood contamination (greater than 10(4) red blood cells/microL) and no evidence of bacterial meningitis, both calculated corrections based on simultaneously obtained complete blood counts and estimated corrections based on average values resulted in overcorrection in a majority of cases (33 of 39 and 25 of 39, respectively). BACKGROUND: Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) and hemoglobinopathies (HbP) are two frequent conditions characterized by microcytemia. Published criteria/scores discriminating these conditions with hematology analyzer parameters are not fully satisfactory. Each of the 24 patients with bleeding oesophageal varices related to the liver cirrhosis was submitted to 3-12 endoscopic sclerotherapies. The gut microbiome is clearly linked to the development of various autoimmune diseases, however, its association with immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is less well understood. Changes in the vasculature of the chinchilla cochlea were quantitatively assessed 45 days after impulse noise exposure of either 155- or 160-dB peak sound pressure level. The condition of the vessels in the lateral wall and spiral lamina of each cochlea was evaluated in terms of 20 morphological parameters.
