Green dentistry: Organic toothpaste formulations. A literature review.

Dentistry as a profession should take into account the goals of sustainable development in daily practice and encourage the transition to a green economy. Consumers are becoming more conscious about the impact of self-care products, including toothpastes, on the environment. Organic toothpastes are considered very safe. A broad literature review was conducted to: (i) identify the ingredients in available organic toothpastes; (ii) classify them into active and inactive; and (iii) evaluate each ingredient's purpose and the adverse events that may be associated with its use. A comprehensive list

Dental procedures in people living with HIV: a narrative review.

HIV affects over 39 million people globally and remains a challenge in oral health care despite advances in antiretroviral therapy (ART). The oral cavity often reflects immune status and serves as a site for opportunistic infections, making dental care essential in HIV management. This review explores four main aspects of dental care for people living with HIV (PLHIV): HIV pathophysiology, transmission risk during dental procedures, infection control strategies, and pre-treatment clinical assessment. Using the population-concept-context framework, literature was reviewed from PubMed, Scopus, a

Central sensitivity syndromes: mounting pathophysiologic evidence to link fibromyalgia with other common chronic pain disorders.

The aim of this study was to review emerging data from the fields of nursing, rheumatology, dentistry, gastroenterology, gynecology, neurology, and orthopedics that support or dispute pathophysiologic similarities in pain syndromes studied by each specialty. A literature search was performed through PubMed and Ovid using the terms fibromyalgia, temporomandibular joint disorder, irritable bowel syndrome, irritable bladder/interstitial cystitis, headache, chronic low back pain, chronic neck pain, functional syndromes, and somatization. Each term was linked with pathophysiology and/or central sen

Internet-Based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Children and Adolescents With Dental or Injection Phobia: Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Dental phobia (DP) and injection phobia (IP) are common in children and adolescents and are considered some of the biggest obstacles to successful treatment in pediatric dentistry. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is an evidence-based treatment for anxiety and phobias. As the availability of CBT in dentistry is low, internet-based CBT (ICBT) was developed. Open trials have shown that ICBT is a promising intervention, but randomized trials are lacking. OBJECTIVE: This randomized controlled trial tests whether therapist-guided ICBT supported by a parent could reduce fear, allowing

Periodontal disease and risk of dementia: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: Periodontal disease is a biofilm-associated, host-mediated inflammatory disease characterized by inflammation and destruction of the tooth-supporting tissues. An association between periodontal disease and adverse cognitive outcomes, including dementia, has been proposed; however, findings across studies remain inconsistent. OBJECTIVE: To systematically synthesize and examine the temporal association between periodontal disease and subsequent cognitive impairment and incident dementia. METHODS: Six large databases were searched for studies published from January 2000 to June 2025
