PURPOSE: To describe a unique case of bilateral Acanthamoeba panophthalmitis in a 65-year-old male resulting in bilateral enucleation.
OBSERVATION: A 65-year-old man presented with a 10-year history of bilateral uveitis and scleritis, complicated by cataracts. Sixteen cases of medulloepithelioma are described. Clinical data and follow-up were available on 15. Four patients underwent iridocyclectomy initially; all later needed enucleation and one had an orbital recurrence. The remaining 12 patients underwent primary enucleation. All 15 patients with follow-up are alive with no evidence of tumour recurrence. It is suggested that enucleation be performed for all but the most localised tumour. We report a case of mucormycosis in a 48 year-old diabetic woman. She presented with nasosinusal ulcer accompanied by panophthalmitis in the left eye and central retinal artery occlusion in the right eye. Left eye enucleation was performed and the diagnosis of mucormycosis was made on histopathologic examination displaying fungal micro-organisms in the optic nerve and in the retina. We present a case report of a three-year old patient diagnosed with retinoblastoma in her left eye. The course of the disease made enucleation of the latter eye and a prosthesis implant necessary. Two years after surgery, partial prosthesis extrusion occurred and a semisynthetic dura mater substitute was used as a patch graft to cover the defect. To our knowledge, semisynthetic dura mater substitutes' use in this scenario has not been previously reported.
