Loading the eyelid with a gold weight is a popular technique for improving closure of the eyelid in patients with facial palsy. Despite it being both safe and simple, placement of the weight into a submuscular pocket is not always successful. Ulceration of the skin, and extrusion and visibility of the implant, are quite common short or long-term complications. We have developed a technical refinement of lid-loading. INTRODUCTION AND HYPOTHESIS: This study aims to introduce a new pelvic reconstructive procedure and assess its safety and efficacy.
METHODS: Anatomic dissection was performed on ten Chinese female cadavers. The fascia 1 cm horizontally lateral to the ischial spine was firm and strong with no major vessels or nerves in the area. OBJECTIVES: The temporoparietal fascia (TPF) is a distinct anatomic layer of the lateral scalp with a defined blood supply. The TPF flap has desirable properties for otologic surgery: high malleability, distinct vascularity, and close proximity to the temporal bone. This article describes our technique for preserving the TPF in approaches to the temporal bone and its subsequent use in otologic reconstructive surgery.

Aim of this study was to evaluate the results of open plantar fascia release and calcaneal spur excision in patients with plantar fasciitis. The author studied retrospectively the results in 16 patients who had been treated with open plantar fascia release and calcaneal spur excision from 2002 to 2008. Two patients were men and fourteen were women. Their mean age was 43.3 years (39 to 52). Based on visual analog scale the results were pain free in 12 feet and some pain in four. OBJECTIVES: We evaluated the use of homograft dehydrated temporal fascia (Tutoplast) in repair of tympanic membrane perforations secondary to chronic otitis media.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: Dehydrated temporal fascia was used during tympanoplasty in 17 patients (10 females, 7 males; mean age 34 years; range 15 to 53 years) with chronic otitis media. Operations were type 1 tympanoplasty in six patients, tympanoplasty and mastoidectomy in three patients, and revision tympanoplasty and/or mastoidectomy in the remaining patients. Isolated lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve entrapment syndromes are uncommon. This report describes the compression of the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve of the forearm at the level of its passage through the superficial antebrachial fascia, distal to the elbow crease. Numbness and a painful dysesthesia over the radial aspect of the volar forearm were documented. Failure of conservative treatment necessitated surgical decompression.

The technique of onlay sandwich grafting of tympanic membrane perforations fashioned by the use of pedicle flap raised from the posterior deep meatal skin and autologous temporalis fascia is described. The results of a series of 124 ears operated between 1987 and 1999 are the basis of this report. Of these 106 patients had myringoplasty for the first time. BACKGROUND: The evolving technology in trauma management today permits salvage of many severe lower extremity injuries previously even considered to be lethal. An essential component for any such treatment protocol must be adequate soft tissue coverage that often will use vascularized flaps. OBJECTIVE: To determine the time to resumption of normal voiding after a fascia lata sling and whether any clinical, operative, or urodynamic variables predict it.

Seventy four simple myringoplasties, 53 with xenograft and 21 with fresh temporalis fascia were reviewed. Closure rate for all cases was 90.5%. There were 3 surgical failures in xenografts and none in the fascia graft. Fifty two myringoplasties, 37 using xenograft and 15 using fascia graft, had a mean follow-up of 20 months and late perforations were seen in 4 of these cases. This study describes 20 years' experience with autogenous temporalis fascia that is formed and shaped by formaldehyde cross-linking with special Fasciaform (Hear America, Palo Alto, Calif.) molds in the repair of large tympanic membrane perforations.
