Interface/Dipole Polarized Antibiotics-Loaded Fe3O4/PB Nanoparticles for Non-Invasive Therapy of Osteomyelitis Under Medical Microwave Irradiation.

Due to their poor light penetration, photothermal therapy and photodynamic therapy are ineffective in treating deep tissue infections, such as osteomyelitis caused by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Here, a microwave (MW)-responsive magnetic targeting composite system consisting of ferric oxide (Fe3O4)/Prussian blue (PB) nanoparticles, gentamicin (Gent), and biodegradable poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) is reported. The PLGA/Fe3O4/PB/Gent complex is used in combination with MW thermal therapy (MTT), MW dynamic therapy (MDT), and chemotherapy (CT) to treat acute osteomyelitis infected w

Nanoprotection Against Retinal Pigment Epithelium Degeneration via Ferroptosis Inhibition.

Lethal oxidative stress and ferrous ion accumulation-mediated degeneration/death in retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) exert an indispensable impact on retinal degenerative diseases with irreversible visual impairment, especially in age-related macular degeneration (AMD), but corresponding pathogenesis-oriented medical intervention remains controversial. In this study, the potent iron-binding nanoscale Prussian blue analogue KCa[FeIII (CN)6 ] (CaPB) with high biocompatibility is designed to inhibit RPE death and subsequently photoreceptor cell degeneration. In mice, CaPB effectively prevents RPE

An amperometric β-glucan biosensor based on the immobilization of bi-enzyme on Prussian blue-chitosan and gold nanoparticles-chitosan nanocomposite films.

A novel β-glucan biosensor was fabricated by immobilizing β-glucanase (β-G) with glucose oxidase (GOD) on nano-Prussian blue-chitosan (PB-CS) and gold nanoparticles-chitosan (AuNPs-CS) composites. Both the PB-CS and AuNPs_CS film were directly electrodeposited on the surface of gold electrode. The morphology of the AuNPs-CS/PB-CS nanocomposites was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM). The electrochemical behavior of the resulting sensor was investigated using cyclic voltammetry (CV) and amperometry. It was found that PB-CS nanocomposite exhibited an excellent electrocatalytic r

A Modular Prussian Blue Nanozyme-Based Microneedle Platform With Flexible Therapeutic Formulations for Localized Treatment of Traumatic Brain Injury.

Secondary injury after traumatic brain injury (TBI) is characterized by excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and persistent neuroinflammation, which remain difficult to control using a single therapeutic agent. Herein, a dissolvable microneedle platform based on Prussian blue (PB) nanoparticles was developed to locally deliver curcumin (Cur) or edaravone (EDA) into injured brain tissue through a transiently disrupted blood-brain barrier. The microneedles were fabricated from hyaluronic acid/carboxymethyl chitosan (HCMN) using a low-temperature multilayer drying process while main

Neutrophil Hitchhiking-Mediated Delivery of ROS-Scavenging Biomimetic Nanoparticles for Enhanced Treatment of Atherosclerosis.

Atherosclerosis (AS), a chronic inflammatory disease and a leading cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality worldwide, is a significant contributor to disability. Neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs) have been closely associated with the progression of AS and plaque vulnerability. However, developing a treatment strategy that specifically targets neutrophils and effectively reduces NET release at the lesion site remains a major challenge. In this study, a biomimetic nanosystem with neutrophil-targeting properties is engineered. Coating Prussian blue nanoparticles with bacterial biomime

Artificial nonenzymatic antioxidant Prussian blue/KGM-BSA nanocomposite hydrogel dressing as ROS scavenging for diabetic wound healing.

The process of diabetic wound healing was influenced by the excessive proliferation of reactive oxygen species (ROS). Therefore, in the process of healing diabetic wounds, it was crucial to removing ROS. This study designed composited nanoparticles: KBP, consisted by Konjac glucomannan, bovine serum albumin, and Prussian blue. Then they were embedded in Konjac glucomannan and hydroxypropyl trimethylammonium chloride chitosan composite hydrogel (KH), The KBP@KH hydrogel finally achieved excellent efficacy in diabetic wound healing. The in vitro and in vivo experiments demonstrated that KPB nano

Point-of-care testing device platform for the determination of creatinine on an enzyme@CS/PB/MXene@AuNP-based screen-printed carbon electrode.

Screen-printed carbon electrodes (SPCE) functionalized with MXene-based three-dimensional nanomaterials are reported for rapid determination of creatinine. Ti3C2TX MXene with in situ reduced AuNPs (MXene@AuNP) were used as a coreactant accelerator for efficient immobilization of enzymes. Creatinine could be oxidized by chitosan-embedded creatinine amidohydrolase, creatine amidinohydrolase, or sarcosine oxidase to generate H2O2, which could be electrochemically detected enhanced by Prussian blue (PB). The enzyme@CS/PB/MXene@AuNP/SPCE detected creatinine within the range 0.03-4.0 mM, with a limi

Biofilm-camouflaged Prussian blue synergistic mitochondrial mass enhancement for Alzheimer's disease based on Cu2+ chelation and photothermal therapy.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases characterized by cognitive and memory impairment. Metal ion imbalance and Mitochondrial dysfunction, leading to abnormal aggregation of β-amyloid protein (Aβ), are key factors in the pathogenesis of AD. Therefore, we designed a composite nanometer system of red blood cell (RBC) membranes-encapsulated Prussian blue nanoparticles (PB/RBC). Prussian blue nanoparticles (PBNPs) can chelate Cu2+ and reduce reactive oxygen species (ROS). The RBC membranes are a kind of natural long-lasting circulating carrier. At the same t

Axon-glial relationships in the anterior medullary velum of the adult rat.

The anterior medullary velum is a thin sheet of CNS tissue which roofs the rostral part of the IVth ventricle and contains fascicles of myelinated fibres which, in part, arise from the nucleus of the IVth cranial nerve. This study used histochemical, immunohistochemical, and intracellular dye-injection techniques to describe cellular interrelationships in the velum in whole-mounts and in sections. Rip antibody-stained whole mounts provided a unique description of both oligodendrocyte units (defined as an oligodendrocyte and the complement of myelinated internodal segments it forms), and consec

pH-Adaptive Microneedle Patch Based on Cerium-Based Prussian Blue Analogues for the Treatment of MRSA-Associated Wound Infections.

The presence of biofilm formation, excessive inflammatory responses, and a dynamic microenvironment makes methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)-associated chronic wound infections difficult to cure. To address this challenge, we developed a smart pH-responsive hyaluronic acid microneedle patch (CV MN) loaded with vancomycin and cerium-based Prussian blue analogs (CPB) for time-coordinated therapy of MRSA-infected wounds. This system realizes its function by using the dynamic pH changes during wound healing: in the acidic infectious microenvironment, vancomycin is rapidly released

Cascade catalytic nanoreactor based on electronic regulatory engineering and biomimetic mineralization strategy for effectively combat bacterial infection in diabetic wounds.

Rapid healing of diabetic wounds remains a huge challenge owing to high blood glucose, susceptibility to bacterial infection and other complex microenvironment. Herein, we cleverly design a glucose-activated multifunctional integrated cascade catalytic nanoreactor for effective combating bacterial infection in diabetic wounds. As a proof of the concept, prussian blue, Rh nanoparticles, and glucose oxidase constitute an activatable nanoreactor "GPR-2.0", which can be activated by glucose on the surface of infected wounds to enhance peroxidase-mimic activity by regulating local pH and self-suppl

pH-gated dual-modal switch photothermal cascade nanozyme hydrogel for diabetic infectious wound healing.

Diabetic wounds are affected by hyperglycemia and neurovascular complications, and are often further exacerbated by bacterial infections, hypoxia, and insufficient collagen deposition. To overcome these pathological barriers, we have designed a pH-gated nanozyme cascade catalytic strategy for rapid bacterial eradication and skin regeneration. In this study, we first synthesized Prussian blue nanoparticles (PB NPs) with photothermal properties and peroxidase (POD)-/catalase (CAT)-like activities, which were then co-loaded with glucose oxidase (GOX) into an oxidized hyaluronic acid/carboxymethyl

Iron overload secondary to cirrhosis: a mimic of hereditary haemochromatosis?

AIMS: Hepatic iron deposition unrelated to hereditary haemochromatosis is common in cirrhosis. The aim of this study was to determine whether hepatic haemosiderosis secondary to cirrhosis is associated with iron deposition in extrahepatic organs. METHODS AND RESULTS: Records of consecutive adult patients with cirrhosis who underwent autopsy were reviewed. Storage iron was assessed by histochemical staining of sections of liver, heart, pancreas and spleen. HFE genotyping was performed on subjects with significant liver, cardiac and/or pancreatic iron. The 104 individuals were predominantly mal
