Chondromyxoid fibromas (CMFs) are rare tumours that comprise less than 2% of benign bone tumours; approximately 5-7.9% occur in the ribs. We report a 28-year-old female patient with CMF in the 4th rib that presented to a tertiary care hospital in Muscat, Oman, in 2023. She complained of pain in the right posterior chest wall for 6 months. A chest computed tomography showed posterior 4th rib expansile lesion measuring 3 × 2 cm without soft tissue involvement. A percutaneous biopsy suggested a diagnosis of chondomyxoid fibroma. The tumour was resected with a free-margin and assistance of video-a…

Cardiac fibroma is the second most common childhood cardiac tumor. Coronary arteries are typically unaffected. A 5-month-old infant received a diagnosis of giant cardiac fibroma with coronary involvement. Ventricular arrhythmias prompted a surgical procedure, which was successful. At follow-up, systolic function was normal, with no arrhythmias.

Trabecular juvenile ossifying fibroma (TrJOF) is a rare, benign, fibro-osseous lesion that predominantly affects children and adolescents. The lesion is locally aggressive, has a high recurrence rate, and is often misdiagnosed due to its clinical and radiographic similarities to other lesions. A seven-year-old female presented with a history of swelling and pain on the right side of her face for the last month. Extraoral examination revealed facial asymmetry and exophthalmos of the right eye. Intraoral examination showed obliteration of the buccal vestibule, though the mucosal lining and teeth…

Primary tumors of the heart are rare with fibromas most commonly identified in utero or infancy and rarely developing in adulthood. Patients with cardiac fibromas are often asymptomatic until tumor enlargement results in obstructive and nonspecific symptoms. A 39-year-old female presented with 5-year history of recurrent chest pain with functional dysphagia, indicative of esophageal spasm. Imaging identified a large left ventricular (LV) fibroma compressing the esophagus provoking esophageal spasm. The fibroma was excised measuring 51 × 39 mm. This case describes presentation with esophageal s…

UNLABELLED: Irritation fibroma is a benign, exophytic reactive oral lesion that develops secondary to injury. Its recurrence rate is rare but may happen in case of repeated trauma at the same site. This case report describes a recurrent fibroma in the anterior region of the hard palate in a 13-year-old male patient, which recurred in less than 1 year of surgical excision of the previous lesion. Through a detailed case history and clinical examination, the etiological factor of the same was found to be trauma from occlusion by the lower incisors. A multidisciplinary treatment approach was, ther…

BACKGROUND: Nuchal-type fibroma is a rare benign tumor arising from the connective tissue. Our aim was to present our experience via two cases of this tumor and a comprehensive review of the literature.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We report a case of a 23-year-old female with a mass located in the posterior neck and the upper back and a case of a 50-year-old male with a mass located in the posterior neck, which were proved to be nuchal-type fibromas in the histopathological examination. We also searched the PubMed/Medline database for published cases of nuchal-type fibromas.

We present the first case of upper airway obstruction secondary to a retropharyngeal Gardner-associated fibroma (GAF). A 16-month-old infant presented with a 3-month history of worsening dyspnoea and apnoeic episodes. Examination revealed stridor and left-sided retropharyngeal asymmetry. MRI demonstrated a mass in the retropharynx. Tracheostomy and pharyngeal biopsy under anaesthesia were performed, and histology confirmed a diagnosis of GAF. The mass was excised using a transcervical approach, and postoperative recovery was unremarkable. GAF is associated with Gardner's syndrome (GS) and fami…

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor (IMT) is a rare benign neoplasm. It is a challenging disease because the symptoms and radiologic findings are diverse and nonspecific. Although pulmonary IMT is the most common form, pleural origin is an extremely rare clinical entity. Nuchal fibroma (NF) is another rare benign neoplasm. We report herein a case of pleural IMT with concomitant NF in a 15-year-old girl. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first report suggesting an association between IMT and NF, and our case had the largest reported intrathoracic IMT. Moreover, we found a possible associ…

This case report describes a rare benign tumor in a 21-year-old female was referred to the department of Periodontics, regarding areas of gingival enlargement affecting both the maxilla and mandible on the right side. She was not having any systemic and family history. Surgical excision of the lesions was carried out under local anesthetic. Histopathological examination confirmed the diagnosis of giant cell fibroma. The condition responded to surgical excision and appears to have limited growth potential. It may affect a wide spectrum of ages, but it is most commonly found in young people and …

Cemento-ossifying fibromas are benign lesions of the jaw, which arise from the periodontal membrane. Histopathologically these are composed of fibrous tissues with calcified structures resembling bone and cementum. Surgical resection is the treatment of choice. They have rarely been reported in the ethmoid sinus, maxillary sinus and sphenoid sinus Mastoid bone is an extremely rare site of such tumors. Only one case of cemento-ossifying fibroma of petromastoid bone has been reported before. We present a case of cementoossifying fibroma involving the petromastoid bone, with the large intracrania…

There are few cases described of fibroma of tendon sheath located to the hand and the wrist. A case of fibroma of tendon sheath of lumbrical muscle of the index finger has been described. The tumor was responsible of a peculiar phenomenon of "triggering" of the wrist during the movements of flexion and extension of the index finger, and caused compression of the median nerve at the carpal tunnel. The intervention has brought to an early and long lasting relief of symptoms. Moreover, the histological aspect has been described and the relatively high possibility of recurrence of this lesion is u…

PURPOSE: Reported clinicopathologic studies on the peripheral ossifying fibroma (POF), a reactive gingival lesion, have not addressed the pediatric population in specific detail. This study, the first devoted to children, investigated the clinical features of a large number of POFs and compared the findings to cases reported in the English language literature.
METHODS: Detailed clinical and historical information of 134 surgically removed POFs in patients aged 1-19 formed the basis of this study. Clinical manifestations, histogenesis, treatment rationale with pediatric considerations, and bio…

A male child presented with suspicion of tricuspid stenosis. Echocardiography revealed the presence of a mass arising from the free wall of the right ventricle and causing right-ventricular inflow obstruction but not involving the tricuspid valve. The tumour was excised via right ventriculotomy using cardiopulmonary bypass, resulting in survival and a satisfactory clinical course. Histological examination showed the tumour to be a fibroma. Tricuspid stenosis is an unusual presentation of right ventricular fibroma. Careful examination is essential to early diagnosis of cardiac fibromas, particu…

The biopsy specimens of the Department of Oral Pathology, Dental School, UMBC, between 1985-1988 were reviewed in 1990 and. 124 cases of giant cell fibroma (GCF) of oral mucosa were found. GCF may develop at any age, but the highest incidence is middle adult life. GCF is slightly common in female than in male (1: 0.85). GCF occurs frequently in gingiva, tongue and cheek and is mistaken commonly for irritation fibroma, neurofibroma, papilloma and pyogenic granuloma, because there are no specific clinic features of it. The fusiform cells, star cells and multinucleated giant cells in the lesion a…
