FTIR and Raman spectra analysis of pure dipropylsulfoxide (DPSO), binary mixtures of DPSO/CCl(4), and DPSO/water has been first performed. The complex pattern of spectra has been explained on the basis of molecular interactions between DPSO and other molecules and, in the aqueous solutions, the role of both hydrophilic and hydrophobic interactions have been discussed depending on the concentrations. A comparative study was made of the sounds produced by normal prosthetic valves (St. Jude Medical, Bjork-Shiley, polymer) with those produced by the same valves but having simulated thrombosis at the stent, hinge, or strut. The EEG effects of a single oral dose of diazepam, amitriptyline and pernazine were studied in 26 healthy volunteers. The EEG analysis was performed by means of FFT and a new parametric method FAD. The results indicate that the FAD method reveals drug changes significantly more often than does the FFT analysis and that the medication effects are more clearly defined by the FAD. The method can be useful in the assessment of the subtle effects of the psychotropic drugs.

Using a rapid Fourier SSFP imaging technique, which is sensitive to slow flow (approximately 1 mm/sec) in the plane of the image, we obtained 135 brain MRI examinations. The CSF flow/motion patterns were mapped by two images with orthogonal in plane flow sensitivity directions. Analysis showed significant deviations from the "normal" pattern in ventricular enlargements because of obstruction (no evidence of CSF flow/motion) or in normal pressure hydrocephalus (complex, intensive flow pattern in lateral ventricles) suggesting a diagnostic potential for this fast imaging technique.

OBJECTIVE: To study the components of occipital seizures using independent component analysis (ICA) of subdurally recorded electroencephalogram (EEG) data.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Epilepsy is a common neurological disorder characterized by recurrent seizures that substantially affect patients' quality of life. Electroencephalography (EEG) is crucial for monitoring brain activity, but traditional spectrogram-based methods often fail to highlight critical frequency bands or capture long-term temporal dynamics.
