Complete traumatic fracture-dislocation of the lumbar spine is a rare spinal injury often leading to death. Surgical intervention is an effective treatment modality to decrease mortality. Our patient was a 16 year old boy who had a collision caused by fall from a construction material lifter. He was referred to our hospital with waist trauma. Later, the patient underwent posterior surgical decompression during which vertebral column restoration by long segment fixation was performed. After surgery there were no significant changes in the patient condition.

Pure tibiotalar dislocation without an associated fracture is an extremely rare injury. We present three cases of closed posteromedial tibiotalar dislocation without any associated fractures to the foot, ankle, or leg. All patients were treated conservatively with immediate closed reduction under general or local anaesthesia and immobilised in a short leg cast for six weeks without weight-bearing resulting in a satisfactory outcome at the final follow-up. A review of the literature is also presented in this paper.

Galeazzi fracture dislocations are fractures of the distal one-third of the radial diaphysis with traumatic disruption of the distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ). This injury results in subluxation or dislocation of the ulnar head. We present a case of a Galeazzi fracture with a volar dislocation of the DRUJ. Open reduction of the DRUJ with Kirschner wire fixation in pronation was necessary to reduce the joint and maintain anatomic alignment. Repair of the triangular fibrocartilage complex was also necessary to maintain stability of the DRUJ.

We conducted an ambispective cohort study of 83 patients with a diagnosis of Lisfranc fracture dislocation from 1993 to 2008. The lesions were classified into two groups: pure dislocations and fracture dislocations of the Lisfranc joint using the Hardcastle-Reschamer classification. The results included the following data: sociodemographic and epidemiologic variables, lesion-related variables, clinical parameters, and the following clinical and functional assessment scales: Baltimore Painful Foot Score, Creighton-Nebraska Health Foundation, American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS), …

Tibiotalar dislocation without associated fracture is a rare injury. We report a case of an unusual open medial ankle dislocation without any associated bony injury. After reduction and debridement under general anaesthesia, capsule suture and ligaments repair were performed. An external fixator was applied for ankle immobilization. After 3 years follow-up, functional results were excellent without signs of instability or degenerative arthritis.

We report the first case of isolated stapedial dislocation caused by indirect head trauma, and present imaging and surgical findings in the case of a 25-year-old woman who suffered hearing loss and dizziness after head trauma caused by a traffic accident. The pure tone average was 60 dB, with an air-bone gap of 50 dB. The stapedial reflex was positive with the probe on the affected ear. Computed tomography scans revealed a longitudinal fracture of the temporal bone and a dislocated stapedial superstructure in the tympanic cavity, adhering to the tympanic membrane. During surgery, it was found

Following a Glenn procedure, a stent was implanted into the pulmonary artery to relieve stenosis. After the procedure, the patient developed bradycardia and became asystolic. Resuscitation was successful following cardiac massage, but subsequent catheterization revealed the stent to be broken in two, with shift of the distal fragment. The two parts were stabilized and connected by implantation of an additional CP stent.

Anterior dislocation of the shoulder joint with ipsilateral humerus shaft fracture is a very rare injury. Until July 2006 only 18 cases have been reported in the literature. Here we report a case of Anterior Shoulder dislocation with greater tuberosity and shaft of humerus fracture. The patient was treated by Open reduction and internal fixation of the shaft fracture followed by closed reduction of the dislocation. A post-operative rehabilitation program was instituted for complete rehabilitation of the shoulder function.

Isolated talonavicular dislocations are uncommon injuries, usually occurring as a result of high-energy trauma. As a result extensive disruption of the midfoot ligamentous structures commonly occur with these injuries, often resulting in a poor outcome. Due to its rarity these injuries remain poorly understood, and several opinions exist on the probable mechanisms of injury and the optimal treatment. Five main injury types have been classified based on the deforming forces and direction of displacement; medial, lateral, longitudinal, plantar, and crush. However new mechanisms and injury patter

The purpose of this study was to describe soft tissue injury patterns and report the clinical results of primary ligament repair with use of protected early mobilisation in unstable elbow dislocations with pure capsulo-ligamentous injuries. Twenty-four patients who presented with traumatic unstable elbow dislocation without associated intra-articular fracture were reviewed. Anatomical repair was performed using metal anchor screws and the bone tunnel method. Ligament avulsion was noted in 55% for the medial collateral ligament, 80% for the lateral collateral ligament, 60% for the flexor tendon

We describe the CT and MRI findings of a thoracolumbar neurocentral synchondrosis fracture-dislocation in an abused infant. The morphologic features of this classically described fracture, and the associated cervical and sacral spine injuries displayed on cross-sectional imaging, provide compelling evidence for a mechanism of massive hyperflexion and axial spinal loading.

Complete fracture-dislocation of the thoracic spine is a rare injury resulting from high-energy impaction that commonly presents with severe neurological deficit. We report a case of this condition in a patient who was involved in a motorcycle-vehicle collision, that resulted in multiple trauma and complete fracture-dislocation of the T7-T8 with middle column-posterior column dissociation. A posterior approach was used for decompression and immediate stabilization of this severe, unstable injury, combined with an anterior approach for anatomic reduction and intervertebral body fusion. No neuro

Anatomic restoration of displaced fracture-dislocation of the tarsometatarsal junction of the foot is essential, as even "minor" disruptions … t. The results of this study reveal that when anatomic reduction is accomplished in tarsometatarsal fracture dislocation of the foot, objective measures of gait analysis are returned to normal. In spite of excellent radiographic results and return to normal dynamic walking patterns, subjective patient outcomes were less than satisfactory. It is presently well accepted …

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the etiology, pathological mechanism and treatment of cervical fracture-dislocation without spinal cord injury.
METHODS: Nine patients with cervical fracture-dislocation without spinal cord injury were male and aged 22 to 63 years. Based on the clinical symptoms and roentgenographic changes, the injury mechanism was analyzed; and the pathological characteristics and treatment principle were put forward.
RESULTS: Anterior reduction was employed in all 9 cases. Eight cases were reduced completely while 1 case was reduced partially. After following up 1 to 3 years, 7 c

A case of an anterior interosseous nerve palsy associated with a Monteggia fracture-dislocation is presented. The fracture of the ulna was reduced and stabilized with a plate, and the proximal radioulnar dislocation was also reduced. The nerve recovery was spontaneous and complete. A satisfactory result was obtained, without pain or functional sequelae.
