21 cases of gonorrhea, some with very long incubation periods, were treated either with 3 x 4 Mega Clemizol-Penicillin G (13 cases) or with 2 x 2 gr. Spectinomycin (8 cases). Thereby a complete cure was achieved in 14 cases (66, 6%), whereas in 2 cases after treatment with Penicillin no complete cure could be accomplished. A non-gonorrhean urethritis (NGU) occurred in the case of 5 patients (24%). BACKGROUND: Donovanosis is a chronic bacterial illness, progressive and indolent, which normally attacks the skin and mucous membranes in the genital and perigenital regions.
CASE: An 18-year-old pregnant female presented with large, hypertrophic lesions in the ano-genital region. HIV serology was negative. Pap smear revealed a CIN 1 associated with HPV infection. Biopsy yielded macrophages laden with Gram-negative Donovan bodies.

Granuloma venereum is endemic in Zambia but there are no previous reports of the disease from this geographical area. Six cases of granuloma venereum in African females were discovered on biopsy specimens. One unusual case with primary cervical involvement simulating carcinoma of the cervix is presented. This case illustrates the difficulties of diagnosis and the ease with which it may be mistaken for malignancy in the absence of histological confirmation.
