Dynamics of circulating antibodies against Trichinella spiralis after application of anthelmintics.

Formation and dynamics of circulating antibodies were studied in mice experimentally inefected with T. spiralis and treated with mebendazole. Latex-fixation tube was used in the experiment. In the control group of untreated mice the antibodies were detected on the 21st day after infection. The antibody level reached the maximum on day 76 and low titres were found still on day 207 after infection. In mice treated with mebendazole in the intestinal phase of trichinellosis, the antibodies were detected 10 or 7 days earlier than in the control group. At this time the antibody level reached the max

Perturbation-evoked cortical responses and altered causal information flow reflect more effortful but less efficient postural control in patients after ACLR.

Effective responses to sudden mechanical perturbations require coordinated neural processes for generating rapid, situation-specific postural reactions. Sensorimotor impairments following anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) may disrupt this coordination and contribute to inefficient postural control strategies. Therefore, the present study investigated perturbation-evoked behavioral and cortical dynamics in individuals after ACLR compared with asymptomatic controls. Seventeen athletes after ACLR (8 female, 23.6 ± 3.7 years) and thirteen controls (4 female, 25.9 ± 4.2 years) underw

Comparison of long term results between prolactin secreting adenomas and ACTH secreting adenomas.

A series of 100 prolactin secreting pituitary adenomas was reviewed and demonstrated an early cure rate of 85.2% with a cure rate of 89% if prolactin was less than 200 ng/ml. For macroadenomas the cure rate was 50% giving an overall cure rate of 71% for the entire group. When long term (greater than 5 years) followup was obtained a 17% incidence of recurrence was noted for the microadenoma group with a 20% recurrence rate for the macroadenoma group. Secretory dynamic studies were done shortly after surgery and then after a delay. Many showed a return to normal prolactin secretory dynamic sugge

Conformational dynamics and distribution of nitroxide spin labels.

Long-range distance measurements based on paramagnetic relaxation enhancement (PRE) in NMR, quantification of surface water dynamics near biomacromolecules by Overhauser dynamic nuclear polarization (DNP) and sensitivity enhancement by solid-state DNP all depend on introducing paramagnetic species into an otherwise diamagnetic NMR sample. The species can be introduced by site-directed spin labeling, which offers precise control for positioning the label in the sequence of a biopolymer. However, internal flexibility of the spin label gives rise to dynamic processes that potentially influence PR

Dynamic Stimulation Aberrometry: Objectively Measured Accommodation and Pupil Dynamics after Phakic Iris-Fixated Intraocular Lens Implantation.

PURPOSE: Anterior iris-claw phakic intraocular lens (pIOL) implantation is a treatment option for refractive, ametropic patients. However, the postoperative accommodative ability has not been systematically researched. Dynamic stimulation aberrometry allows the objective and dynamical measurement of accommodation by observing ocular aberrations during the accommodation process. We investigated the dynamic accommodative ability after pIOL implantation compared with a healthy age- and gender-matched control group. DESIGN: Clinical, comparative case-control study. SUBJECTS: We included patients

Predictive value of HBeAg titer dynamics for HBsAg clearance in pediatric chronic hepatitis B.

INTRODUCTION: Achieving functional cure of chronic hepatitis B (CHB), characterized by the loss of HBV DNA and HBsAg, remains challenging in adults but demonstrates higher success rates in children. Elucidating the factors influencing HBsAg loss in pediatric patients is crucial for optimizing treatment strategies. This study aimed to evaluate the predictive value of HBeAg titer dynamics for HBsAg clearance in pediatric CHB and develop a predictive model incorporating these dynamics. MATERIAL AND METHODS: This retrospective cohort study analyzed 119 children aged 1-18 years with CHB treated wi

Glutamate dynamics and BOLD response during OCD symptom provocation in the lateral occipital cortex: A 7 Tesla fMRI-fMRS study.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is linked with dysfunction in frontal-striatal, fronto-limbic, and visual brain regions. Research using proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (1H-MRS) suggests that altered neurometabolite levels, like glutamate, may contribute to this dysfunction. However, static neurometabolite levels in OCD patients have shown inconsistent results, likely due to previous studies' limited focus on neurometabolite dynamics. We employ functional MRS (fMRS) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to explore these dynamics and brain activation during OCD symptom prov

Relationship between landing strategy and patellar tendinopathy in volleyball.

OBJECTIVE: The aetiology of patellar tendinopathy (jumper's knee) remains unclear. To see whether landing strategy might be a risk factor for the development of this injury, this study examined whether landing dynamics from drop jumps differed among healthy volleyball players (CON) and volleyball players with a jumper's knee. The patients with jumper's knee were divided into an asymptomatic group with a previous jumper's knee (PJK) and a symptomatic group with a recent jumper's knee (RJK). METHODS: Inverse dynamics analyses were used to estimate lower extremity joint dynamics from 30, 50 and

Relationship among muscle strength, muscle endurance, and skeletal muscle oxygenation dynamics during ramp incremental cycle exercise.

Peak oxygen uptake (VO2), evaluated as exercise tolerance, is a strong predictor of life prognosis regardless of health condition. Several previous studies have reported that peak VO2 is higher in those with a greater decrease in muscle oxygen saturation (SmO2) in the active muscles during incremental exercise. However, the skeletal muscle characteristics of individuals exhibiting a greater decrease in SmO2 during active muscle engagement in incremental exercise remain unclear. This study aimed to clarify the relationship among muscle strength, muscle endurance, and skeletal muscle oxygenation

Brain-computer interface-based neurofeedback training enables transferable control of cortical state switching in humans.

Behavioral flexibility relies on transient neural dynamics that govern cortical state transitions. However, whether humans can deliberately learn to control such state transitions and generalize trained neural dynamics beyond contexts remains unclear. Here, we demonstrate that operation of a brain-computer interface (BCI) which links time evolution of sensorimotor activity with real-time feedback enables volitional control over the targeted neural population. Compared with a double-blind sham control group, trained participants modulated sensorimotor oscillations in the absence of BCI. Data-dr

The tempo and mode of gene regulatory programs during bacterial infection.

Innate immune recognition of bacterial pathogens is a key determinant of the ensuing systemic response, and host or pathogen heterogeneity in this early interaction can impact the course of infection. To gain insight into host response heterogeneity, we investigate macrophage inflammatory dynamics using primary human macrophages infected with Group B Streptococcus. Transcriptomic analysis reveals discrete cellular states within responding macrophages, one of which consists of four sub-states, reflecting inflammatory activation. Infection with six additional bacterial species-Staphylococcus aur

Diverse lamin-dependent mechanisms interact to control chromatin dynamics. Focus on laminopathies.

Interconnected functional strategies govern chromatin dynamics in eukaryotic cells. In this context, A and B type lamins, the nuclear intermediate filaments, act on diverse platforms involved in tissue homeostasis. On the nuclear side, lamins elicit large scale or fine chromatin conformational changes, affect DNA damage response factors and transcription factor shuttling. On the cytoplasmic side, bridging-molecules, the LINC complex, associate with lamins to coordinate chromatin dynamics with cytoskeleton and extra-cellular signals.   Consistent with such a fine tuning, lamin mutations and/or

Dynamical changes of phospholipid membranes caused by polymorphic amyloid fibrils studied by quasi-elastic neutron scattering.

Deposition of protein aggregates called amyloid fibrils in various organs is the hallmark of amyloidosis such as Alzheimer's disease. Due to the polymorphism of amyloid fibrils, some types of fibrils are more cytotoxic than others, which seems to be correlated with the onset and the severity of amyloidosis. However, the molecular mechanism of cytotoxicity is not well understood, where interactions between amyloid fibrils and bio-membranes play a crucial role. Here, by employing quasi-elastic neutron scattering (QENS) in combination with the state-of-the-art analytical model of phospholipid dyn

Stuck in a State of Inattention? Functional Hyperconnectivity as an Indicator of Disturbed Intrinsic Brain Dynamics in Adolescents With Concussion: A Pilot Study.

Sports-related concussion in youth is a major public health issue. Evaluating the diffuse and often subtle changes in structure and function that occur in the brain, particularly in this population, remains a significant challenge. The goal of this pilot study was to evaluate the relationship between the intrinsic dynamics of the brain using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) and relate these findings to structural brain correlates from diffusion tensor imaging in a group of adolescents with sports-related concussions ( n = 6) and a group of healthy adolescent athlet
