Despite extensive clinical research, the etiology of equine recurrent uveitis (ERU) is still unknown. After an immunologic pathogenesis was established in recurrent uveitis in humans, a similar pathogenic mechanism was assumed to exist in ERU. By using a Fab2 fragment blocking assay with cultured human B lymphoid cells and peripheral lymphocytes as targets, cytotoxic antibodies to Ia-like antigens, to HLA-A,B,C antigens, and to lymphocyte structures other than these two types of histocompatibility antigens were identified in serial post-transplant sera from 18 renal allograft recipients. Unrelated bone marrow donor-recipient pairs were assessed retrospectively for matching of the HLA-B, -C region (beta-block) and HLA-DR, DQ region (delta block) of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) using a new DNA-based method referred to as MHC-block typing. We studied the distribution of HLA-A, B, C, and -DR antigens in 77 Caucasian patients with sero-positive rheumatoid arthritis. Forty-four patients were genotyped and compared with the control panel of 110 unrelated Caucasian genotyped donors. INTRODUCTION: Therapeutic vaccination based on synthetic long peptides (SLP®) containing both CD4+ and CD8+ T cell epitopes is a promising treatment strategy for chronic hepatitis B infection (cHBV).
METHODS: We designed SLPs for three HBV proteins, HBcAg and the non-secreted proteins polymerase and X, and investigated their ability to induce T cell responses ex vivo. A set of 17 SLPs was constructed based on viral protein conservation, functionality, predicted and validated binders for prevalent human leukocyte antigen (HLA) supertypes, validated HLA I epitopes, and chemical producibility.

Leishmania infantum is the etiologic agent of zoonotic visceral leishmaniasis (VL) in countries in the Mediterranean basin, where dogs are the domestic reservoirs and represent important elements in the transmission of the disease. Uterine cervices with histologic changes suggestive of human papilloma virus (HPV) infection were examined for the presence of papilloma virus capsid antigens and the Class II histocompatibility antigen HLA-DR. This study assesses the changes in the expression of histocompatibility antigen (HLA)-DR by mononuclear phagocytes from HIV-infected individuals.
