Characteristics of a human liver allograft--derived T-cell line that exhibits suppressor activity.

In an attempt to identify predominant cell populations that may mediate liver allograft dysfunction, the phenotypic and functional characteristics of lymphoid cells propagated from needle biopsy specimens of rejecting liver transplants were examined. In one case, a T-cell line of host phenotype propagated from a liver allograft biopsy demonstrated significant in vitro suppressor activity. This T-cell line (designated JB) was maintained for almost one year in culture with medium containing human recombinant interleukin 2 and with weekly stimulation by an Epstein-Barr virus-transformed B-cell li

Single-channel characteristics and regulation of endogenously expressed cation channels in human cardiac microvascular endothelial cells and human aortic endothelial cells.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies showed that endothelial sodium channels (EnNaC) endogenously expressed in human aortic endothelial cells (hAoEC) are positively regulated by extracellular vesicles enriched in the lipid raft protein MARCKS-like protein 1 (MLP-1) and bioactive lipids, and negatively regulated by C-type natriuretic peptide receptor (NPRC) ligand binding. Here, we hypothesize that human cardiac microvascular endothelial cells (hCMEC) express an EnNaC/ENaC-like channel that is sensitive to the NPR-C agonist cANF, MLP-1 protein expression, and nystatin mediated lipid raft modulation. [Analysis of Tat protein characteristics in human immunodeficiency virus type 1 sub-subtype A6 (Retroviridae: Orthoretrovirinae: Lentivirus: Human immunodeficiency virus-1)].

INTRODUCTION: Tat protein is a major factor of HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) transcription regulation and has other activities. Tat is characterized by high variability, with some amino acid substitutions, including subtypespecific ones, being able to influence on its functionality. HIV type 1 (HIV-1) sub-subtype A6 is the most widespread in Russia. Previous studies of the polymorphisms in structural regions of the A6 variant have shown numerous characteristic features; however, Tat polymorphism in A6 has not been studied.Goals and tasks. The main goal of the work was to analyze the chara

Heat Pump Noise: Scoping Overview of Emission Characteristics and Systematic Review of Human Effects.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this work is two-fold: to characterize air-source heat pump (ASHP) noise emissions and to systematically evaluate the scientific evidence regarding non-auditory health effects, thereby assessing the technology's current and future public health impact. METHODS: The primary component is a PRISMA-guided systematic review on noise impact. Utilizing a population-exposure-outcome framework, eight bibliographic databases were searched for English and German records. Of 501 identified records, 26 reports (covering 25 unique studies) met eligibility criteria. Risk of bias (RoB)

Molecular characteristics, epidemiological trends, and public health implications of human metapneumovirus (hMPV): a review.

Human Metapneumovirus (hMPV) is an emerging respiratory pathogen associated with significant morbidity, particularly among young children, older adults, and immunocompromised individuals. Although clinically relevant, it remains underrecognized relative to influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). Recent regional outbreaks, including the January 2025 surge in northern China, highlight hMPV's capacity to cause significant above-seasonal transmission events, particularly in settings with immunity debt following prolonged non-pharmaceutical interventions. This review synthesizes current kn

[Clinicopathological characteristics of human epidermal growth factor receptor-2 1+ cases in breast cancer].

BACKGROUND: The expression of the HER2 oncogene has a specific prognostic and therapeutic objective in breast cancer care. Low gene expression, called HER2-low implies the possibility of being a candidate for targeted therapy. However, there is significant variability in its interpretation, hence the importance of emphasizing its proper identification and reporting. OBJECTIVE: To estimate the proportion of cases confirmed as HER2 1+ among biopsies previously reported as HER2 1+, and to describe their clinicopathological characteristics, as well as the interobserver agreement in their classifi

Distinct biological characteristics of mesenchymal stem cells separated from different components of human placenta.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have tremendous potential in cell therapy and regenerative medicine. The placenta-derived MSCs (PMSCs) are becoming favorable sources as they are ethically preferable and rich in MSCs. Although several subgroups of PMSCs have been identified from human term placenta, optimal sources for specific clinical applications remain to be elucidated. This study aimed to isolate MSCs from various components of the placenta, and compare their biological characteristics, including morphology, proliferation, immunophenotype, differentiation potential, growth factor and cytokin

Variable characteristics overlooked in human K-562 leukemia cell lines with a common signature.

K-562 is a well-known in vitro cellular model that represents human leukemia cell lines. Although the K-562 cells have been extensively characterized, there are inconsistencies in the data across publications, showing the presence of multiple K-562 cell lines. This suggests that analyzing a single K-562 cell line is insufficient to provide reliable reference data. In this study, we compared three K-562 cell lines with different IDs (RCB0027, RCB1635, and RCB1897) to investigate the fundamental characteristics of K-562 cells. Amplifications of the BCR-ABL1 fusion gene and at 13q31 were detected

Clinical Features, Microbiological Characteristics, and Drug Sensitivity Analysis of Rare Human Spinal Pythiosis Strain.

Pythiosis, a rare and formidable infectious disease caused by Pythium insidiosum, is characterized by profound uncertainties in achieving definitive diagnoses, suboptimal outcomes, and an exceptionally high mortality rate. Here, we present a rare case of human spinal pythiosis in southern China. With advanced metagenomic sequencing technology, Pythium insidiosum was pinpointed as the causative pathogen. We discovered that the inoculation of either tissue fragments or homogenate yielded more successful results and enabled a moderate extension of the culture duration to 5-10 days through an exha

Biomechanical Characteristics of Kissing Spine During Extension Using a Human Cadaveric Lumbar Spinal Model.

INTRODUCTION: Although kissing spine syndrome in the lumbar spinal region is a relatively common condition in older adults, no study examining its biomechanical characteristics has been reported. We hypothesized that kissing of the spinous processes during extension causes an increase in the flexural rigidity of the spine and significantly limits the deformation behavior of extension, which in turn might cause lower back pain. METHODS: Three test models (human cadavers A, B, and C) were prepared by removing supraspinal/interspinous ligaments between L4 and L5. The dental resin was attached to

Extracellular Vesicles Released During Normothermic Machine Perfusion Are Associated With Human Donor Kidney Characteristics.

BACKGROUND: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are tissue-specific particles released by cells containing valuable diagnostic information in the form of various biomolecules. The characterization of EVs released by kidney grafts during normothermic machine perfusion (NMP) may present a promising avenue to assess graft status before transplantation. METHODS: We phenotyped and determined the concentrations of EVs in the perfusate of 8 discarded expanded-criteria donor human kidneys during 6 h of NMP. Perfusate samples were taken at 0/60/180/360 min and examined with nanoparticle tracking analysis and

Genetic diversity and virulence characteristics of Helicobacter pylori isolates in different human ethnic groups.

Helicobacter pylori is the most predominant bacterium in almost 50% of the world's population and colonization causes a persistent inflammatory response leading to chronic gastritis. It shows high genetic diversity and individuals generally harbour a distinct bacterial population. With the advancement of whole-genome sequencing technology, new H. pylori subpopulations have been identified that show admixture between various H. pylori strains. Genotypic variation of H. pylori may be related to the presence of virulence factors among strains and is associated with different outcomes of infection

[Atmospheric Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers in Eight Cities of China: Pollution Characteristics and Human Exposure].

The gas and particle samples of eight cities were collected by high flow active air sampler in the Eastern and Western China and eight congeners of polybrominated diphenyl ethers were analyzed. The results showed that the concentration of BDE-28 (tri-BDE) in the gas-phase (three bromide components) was the highest, which was different from previous studies where BDE-99 and-47 were the predominant homologues in the gas-phase while the concentration of BDE-209 [(25.4 ± 124) pg · m⁻³] in particle-phase was the highest. The atmospheric concentrations of PBDEs in Beijing and Guangzhou were relative

CD133+ subpopulation of the HT1080 human fibrosarcoma cell line exhibits cancer stem-like characteristics.

The cancer stem cell (CSC) theory holds that a minority population within tumors possesses stem cell properties of self-renewal and multilineage differentiation capacity and provides the initiating cells from which tumors are derived and sustained. However, verifying the existence of these CSCs has been a significant challenge. The CD133 antigen is a pentaspan membrane glycoprotein proposed to be a CSC marker for cancer-initiating subpopulations in the brain, colon and various other tissues. Here, CD133+ cells were obtained and characterized from the HT1080 cell line to determine the utility o

Characteristics of nucleoplasmic bridges induced by 60Co γ-rays in human peripheral blood lymphocytes.

Few studies have shown that the yields of ionising-radiation-induced nucleoplasmic bridges (NPBs) in human cells are dose dependent. However, a dose-response curve between the NPB frequency and the absorbed dose of ionising radiation has not yet been established. This study aimed to investigate NPB frequencies in human peripheral blood lymphocytes induced by cobalt-60 (60Co) γ-rays and to establish a dose-response curve. Human peripheral blood samples were collected from three healthy males, and some of these samples were irradiated with 0-6 Gy 60Co γ-rays. A cytokinesis-block micronucleus cyt
