Study on the Alleviating Effect of Tropical Psidium guajava Basal Postbiotics on Hyperuricemia.

Hyperuricemia (HUA) is a growing global health concern with a younger onset trend. Using a high-purine diet-induced HUA mouse model, this study evaluated kidney, colon, and gut microbiota damage and investigated the effects of Psidium guajava basal postbiotics (PGP). PGP reduced xanthine oxidase activity, modulated purine metabolism, and increased beneficial gut bacteria (Akkermansia muciniphila) and short-chain fatty acids (acetate, butyrate, propionate). This led to decreased blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, and renal malondialdehyde, along with reduced inflammatory factors (IL-8, LPS). Cons

Environmental and dietary triggers of hyperuricemia in chronic kidney disease: A cardiovascular perspective.

BACKGROUND: Hyperuricemia-defined as serum urate above 6.8 mg/dL-is increasingly recognized as a risk marker and amplifier of chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression and cardiovascular disease (CVD), rather than merely a precursor to gout. In CKD, impaired renal urate clearance is exacerbated by environmental toxins, including airborne pollutants and heavy metals (lead, cadmium, arsenic), which disrupt tubular function and downregulate urate transporters (ABCG2, OAT1/3, URAT1). Dietary factors such as high-purine foods, fructose-rich beverages, and alcohol promote urate overproduction and red

Buddleja officinalis as a natural xanthine oxidase inhibitor in a murine hyperuricemia model.

Buddleja officinalis Maxim. is rich in flavonoids and polyphenols, which exhibits pronounced antioxidant activity. Given that B. asiatica, a related species, has been noted to inhibit xanthine oxidase (XO) in vitro, the urate-lowering effects of B. officinalis have not been confirmed. Thus, this study aimed to screen the XO inhibition of extracts in vitro and to confirm the most active urate-lowering fraction of B. officinalis in vivo. Ethanol extracts were partitioned into n-hexane (HEX), ethyl acetate (EA), n-butanol (BuOH), and aqueous fractions. The EA fraction of B. officinalis extracts e

Previous schistosome infection and the risk of incident hyperuricemia: A prospective cohort study.

INTRODUCTION: Although prior research in China has linked previous schistosome infection (PSI) to lower risks of metabolic syndrome and cardiorenovascular conditions, the association between PSI and hyperuricemia, a recognized risk factor for these conditions, remains unclear. This study examines the relationship between PSI and hyperuricemia and identifies factors associated with hyperuricemia incidence in individuals with PSI. METHODS: This prospective cohort study included 23,051 adults from eight health centers in Kunshan (2018-2021). Exposure was defined by self-reported PSI, validated b

Impact of preoperative hyperuricemia on the prognosis of patients with acute type A aortic dissection.

BACKGROUND: The mortality of patients with acute type A aortic dissection remains high, and it is imperative to explore the risk factors that affect patient prognosis. METHODS AND RESULTS: 485 patients with acute type A aortic dissection who underwent surgery were included in our study. Based on preoperative serum uric acid tests, the patients were divided into two groups. After adjusting baseline data (SMD < 0.1), the 30-day mortality (19.4 % vs 6.2 %, P < 0.001) in the hyperuricemia group were significantly higher. Univariate and multivariate COX regression revealed that hyperuricemia was a

Effect and mechanism of Plantaginis Semen polysaccharides on intestinal microecology in rats with hyperuricemia.

INTRODUCTION: Hyperuricemia (HUA) is characterized by metabolic abnormalities in purine metabolism, leading to an excessive accumulation of uric acid in the bloodstream. This condition is not only prevalent but also significantly linked to the exacerbation of various chronic diseases, including renal impairment. Notably, asymptomatic hyperuricemia is frequently associated with inflammatory responses and alterations in intestinal microbiota. Thus, it is imperative to explore effective therapeutic interventions for HUA to mitigate its associated health risks. METHODS: The present study aimed to

Hyperuricemia in Chronic Kidney Disease: Emerging Pathophysiology and a Novel Therapeutic Strategy.

Hyperuricemia has been increasingly recognized as a modifiable contributor to chronic kidney disease (CKD) progression. Although the traditional classification of hyperuricemia distinguished between renal underexcretion and renal overload types, recent studies suggest that hyperuricemia in patients with CKD can result from heterogeneous excretory defects, including glomerular under-filtration and tubular over-reabsorption. These distinct phenotypes may drive divergent renal injury mechanisms. Experimental and clinical data reveal that monosodium urate crystals and soluble uric acid independent

Research on related factors of hyperuricemia in high altitude area migrant population.

BACKGROUND: Hyperuricemia, a prevalent metabolic disorder, is witnessing a global annual increase in incidence. The gout it triggers and its link to other chronic diseases pose a severe threat to human health. The unique natural environment of high-altitude regions, characterized by low oxygen partial pressure and cold climate, may exert a distinctive influence on human metabolism, thereby impacting the onset and progression of hyperuricemia. METHODS: This study recruited 284 plateau migrants undergoing physical examinations at Ritu County Hospital from June to December 2024. Among them, 224

Spatial distribution of gut microbiota in mice during the occurrence and remission of hyperuricemia.

BACKGROUND: Previous studies have shown that anserine can alleviate hyperuricemia by changing the fecal microbiota of hyperuricemic mice. TOPIC: However, the fecal microbiota could not fully represent the distribution of the whole gut microbiota. Knowing the spatial distribution of the gastrointestinal tract microbiota is therefore important for understanding its action in the occurrence and remission of hyperuricemia. METHODS: This study provides a comprehensive map of the most common bacterial communities that colonize different parts of the mouse gastrointestinal tract (stomach, duodenum,

Women with Metabolic Syndrome and Unhealthy Lifestyle Factors Are at a Higher Risk for Hyperuricemia.

Hyperuricemia (HUA) has become a significant medical concern due to its complications and links to metabolic syndrome (MetS) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), which result in increased mortality. The pathogenic processes associated with unhealthy behaviors, MetS, and HUA can be cooperative and potentially synergistic in the activation of risk factors. Recent research has shown sex-based differences in the relationship between HUA and its associated risk factors. This study aimed to investigate these differences, particularly in the context of MetS and CVD risk factors and unhealthy lifestyles.

Clinical Significance of Elevated Xanthine Dehydrogenase Levels and Hyperuricemia in Patients with Sepsis.

Patient outcomes for severe sepsis and septic shock remain poor. Excessive oxidative stress accelerates organ dysfunction in severe acute illnesses. Uric acid (UA) is the most abundant antioxidant. We hypothesized that UA and related molecules, which play a critical role in antioxidant activity, might be markers of oxidative stress in sepsis. The study aimed to clarify the clinical significance of UA and the relationship between UA, molecules related to UA, and outcomes by measuring blood UA, xanthine dehydrogenase (XDH), and 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels over time. Blood UA level

Asymptomatic hyperuricemia associated with increased risk of nephrolithiasis: a cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Existing evidence shows that there is an independent correlation between nephrolithiasis and gout, and hyperuricemia is the most important risk factor for gout. However, hyperuricemia was often used as an accompanying symptom of gout to explore its association with nephrolithiasis, there were few studies to explore whether hyperuricemia itself or serum uric acid (SUA) is related to the risk of nephrolithiasis. Evidence on the relationship between hyperuricemia and nephrolithiasis is still insufficient. METHODS: A total of 22,303 participants aged 30 to 79 years who participated in

The chemistry, processing, and preclinical anti-hyperuricemia potential of tea: a comprehensive review.

Hyperuricemia is an abnormal purine metabolic disease that occurs when there is an excess of uric acid in the blood, associated with cardiovascular diseases, hypertension, gout, and renal disease. Dietary intervention is one of the most promising strategies for preventing hyperuricemia and controlling uric acid concentrations. Tea (Camellia sinensis) is known as one of the most common beverages and the source of dietary polyphenols. However, the effect of tea on hyperuricemia is unclear. Recent evidence shows that a lower risk of hyperuricemia is associated with tea intake. To better understan
