Classification of breast cancer histopathology images using a modified supervised contrastive learning method.

Deep neural networks have reached remarkable achievements in medical image processing tasks, specifically in classifying and detecting various diseases. However, when confronted with limited data, these networks face a critical vulnerability, often succumbing to overfitting by excessively memorizing the limited information available. This work addresses the challenge mentioned above by improving the supervised contrastive learning method leveraging both image-level labels and domain-specific augmentations to enhance model robustness. This approach integrates self-supervised pre-training with a

Automatic detection and characterization of funnel chest based on spiral CT.

Funnel chest (Pectus excavatum) is the most common deformity of the anterior chest in children. Present paper describes a method to process and classify CT slices representing funnel chest deformities. A manually chosen CT slice was processed to detect the inner curvature of the chest for characterization. Normalized data from the detected inner curvature was gained and saved next to a manually-given deformity type for further classification rule determinations. Based on the multiple correlations of the values gained from the inner curvature, a hierarchical classification was performed on 199

Medical Referring Image Segmentation via Next-Token Mask Prediction.

Medical Referring Image Segmentation (MRIS) involves segmenting target regions in medical images based on natural language descriptions. While achieving promising results, recent approaches usually involve complex design of multimodal fusion or multi-stage decoders. In this work, we propose NTP-MRISeg, a novel framework that reformulates MRIS as an autoregressive next-token prediction task over a unified multimodal sequence of tokenized image, text, and mask representations. This formulation streamlines model design by eliminating the need for modality-specific fusion and external segmentation

DS-MTNet: A dual-stream multi-task network for histopathology localization and histologic risk stratification from small biopsy specimens of bladder cancer.

Accurate histologic risk stratification of bladder cancer (BC) from whole-slide images (WSIs) remains challenging due to complex cellular spatial organization and the limited capability of conventional convolution-based methods to capture topological relationships. To address these challenges, this study presents a dual-stream multi-task network, termed DS-MTNet, for knowledge-driven risk stratification and tumor localization in computational pathology. DS-MTNet integrates two complementary feature learning streams: a local stream that captures fine-grained morphological representations from h

Cortical lesions (CLs) have emerged as valuable biomarkers in multiple sclerosis (MS), offering high diagnostic specificity and prognostic relevance. However, their routine clinical integration remains limited due to subtle magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) appearance, challenges in expert annotation, and a lack of standardized automated methods. We present a multi-centric comparative study of CL detection and segmentation in MRI. A total of 656 MRI scans, including clinical trial and research data from four institutions, were acquired at 3T and 7T using MP2RAGE and MPRAGE sequences with expert

Deep Learning-accelerated MRI in Body and Chest.

Deep learning reconstruction (DLR) provides an elegant solution for MR acceleration while preserving image quality. This advancement is crucial for body imaging, which is frequently marred by the increased likelihood of motion-related artifacts. Multiple vendor-specific models focusing on T2, T1, and diffusion-weighted imaging have been developed for the abdomen, pelvis, and chest, with the liver and prostate being the most well-studied organ systems. Variational networks with supervised DL models, including data consistency layers and regularizers, are the most common DLR methods. The common

Joint self-supervised and supervised contrastive learning for multimodal MRI data: Towards predicting abnormal neurodevelopment.

The integration of different imaging modalities, such as structural, diffusion tensor, and functional magnetic resonance imaging, with deep learning models has yielded promising outcomes in discerning phenotypic characteristics and enhancing disease diagnosis. The development of such a technique hinges on the efficient fusion of heterogeneous multimodal features, which initially reside within distinct representation spaces. Naively fusing the multimodal features does not adequately capture the complementary information and could even produce redundancy. In this work, we present a novel joint s

A Survey on the Machine Learning Techniques for Automated Diagnosis from Ultrasound Images.

Medical diagnostic systems has recently been very popular and reliable because of possible automatic detections. The machine learning algorithm is evolved as a core tool of computer-aided diagnosis (CAD) for automatic early and accurate disease detections. The algorithm follows region of interest (ROI) selection followed by specific feature extractions and selection from medical images. The selected features are then fed to suitable classifiers for disease identification. The machine learning algorithm's performance depends on the features selected and the classifiers employed for the job. Thi

Cell comparative learning: A cervical cytopathology whole slide image classification method using normal and abnormal cells.

Automated cervical cancer screening through computer-assisted diagnosis has shown considerable potential to improve screening accessibility and reduce associated costs and errors. However, classification performance on whole slide images (WSIs) remains suboptimal due to patient-specific variations. To improve the precision of the screening, pathologists not only analyze the characteristics of suspected abnormal cells, but also compare them with normal cells. Motivated by this practice, we propose a novel cervical cell comparative learning method that leverages pathologist knowledge to learn th

Projection-based tokenization with Pseudo feature learning for ovarian lesion segementation in ultrasound images.

Accurate segmentation of ovarian lesions in ultrasound images is essential for early cancer detection and effective treatment planning. However, this task remains challenging due to large variations in lesion size and shape, as well as similar intensities or textures between lesions and surrounding tissues. To jointly address these challenges, this study proposes a Radon-projected model with pseudo feature learning for ovarian lesion segmentation. Specifically, a Radon-projected feature learning module generates projection-based tokenization as input to the Transformer and integrates both loca
