On-tissue chemical derivatization is a valuable tool for expanding compound coverage in untargeted metabolomic studies with matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI). Applying multiple derivatization agents in parallel increases metabolite coverage even further but results in large and more complex datasets that can be challenging to analyze. A novel universal N-transfer reagent for direct and effective transformation of α-amino ketones, acetamides, and esters to the corresponding α-diazo products under mild basic conditions has been developed. This one-step synthetic approach not only allows for generation of α-substituted-α-diazo carbonyl compounds from α-amino acid derivatives but also permits preparation of α-diazo dipeptides from N-terminal dipeptides (32 examples, up to 91%).

A new colorimetric sensor array based on mixing of Molybdenum disulfide quantum dots (MoS2 QDs) and organic reagents is introduced in this study. MoS2 QDs shows a specific and higher affinity to oxygen functionalized volatile compounds like aldehydes and ketones. The suitability of acetic acid as a safer alternative to formalin in the modified Knott test was evaluated for the diagnosis of canine heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis). Microfilaria concentration was measured by both methods and found to agree within reasonable limits (-5.84 % bias; -88.1-76.4 % limits of agreement). A method for nucleophilic difluoromethylation of reactive Michael acceptors, aldehydes, and azomethines is described. The reaction is performed using the readily available and air-stable reagent difluoromethylene phosphabetaine. The process involves interaction of an electrophilic substrate with in situ generated difluorinated phosphonium ylide followed by hydrolysis of the carbon-phosphorus bond under mild conditions.

A facile and efficient oxidative cleavage of oximes to form carbonyl compounds is reported using phenyl iodonium (III) diacetate (PIDA) and polymer supported polydiacetoxyiodostyrene. Regeneration of carbonyl compounds from corresponding oximes is an important reaction, since oxime derivatives constitute one of the primary methods for purification and characterization of carbonyl compounds. This process overcomes many of the disadvantages associated with other oxidative methods such as long reaction times, difficulties in isolation of products and formation of over oxidized products.

An interaction of some derivatives of 2-, 3-, 4-alkoxyphenylcarbamic acids with dsDNA was investigated using the anodic voltammetric signal at a DNA-based electrochemical biosensor. Significant, however, reversible association was found, particularly in weak acidic and neutral solution where the protonated forms of the drug molecules occur which are electrostatically bound to the negatively charged DNA backbone. Total drug liberation from the DNA layer within 1 min. was observed in blank buffer solution without drug molecules.
