BACKGROUND: Small-bowel tumors are rare and account for 1-2% of all gastrointestinal neoplasms. Most of these tumors are found at surgery indicated for other diagnosis or intestinal obstruction. The rarity, unclear presentation and diagnostic difficulty of these tumors stimulated our interest to review our experience with emergency surgery for intestinal obstruction secondary to jejunoileal tumors.
METHODS: We reviewed 17 patients operated on for intestinal obstruction secondary to benign and malignant primary tumors of jejunum and ileum at our institution the last 10 years.

Sixteen patients suffering from complicated hepatolithiasis and ductal stricture were treated with a special U-shaped double balloon drainage catheter designed by the authors, and pedicle flap graft of gallbladder or jejunum for repair of large hepatobiliary duct defect were introduced. The follow-up study for 9-25 months (average 13.6 months) showed that the short-term results were excellent in all cases. The material structure of the drainage, the clinical diagnostic criteria of the disorder, the procedure of the operation and the clinical observation were also discussed.

In 7 horses, 4 anastomoses were done in the small intestine in each, using the combinations of synthetic absorbable monofilament and multifilament suture materials with continuous- and interrupted-suture patterns in the serosubmucosal layer of a 2-layer inverting-suture technique. Horses were evaluated 30 days after the operation for adhesion formation, lumen diameter, evidence of chronic obstruction, and suture tract inflammation at the anastomosis. We report on 20 patients with esophageal defects that were reconstructed by jejunum transplant with the help of microsurgical techniques. Sixteen attempts were successful, for a success rate of 80%. We previously reported that adding a concentrate of transgenic tomatoes expressing the apoA-I mimetic peptide 6F (Tg6F) to a Western diet (WD) ameliorated systemic inflammation. Double expressor lymphoma (DEL), defined as overexpression of BCL2 and MYC, is an aggressive subtype of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL). Here we report a case of a 64-year-old female diagnosed with abdominal DEL transformed from jejunum follicular lymphoma (FL). 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)-positron emission tomography showed diffuse accumulation of FDG into the peritoneum and small bowel wall.
