Impact of Diagnosis of Urologic Cancer on Male Sexuality and Patients' Perceptions of Health Professional's Approach.

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the impact of a urological neoplasm diagnosis on male sexuality and examine patient perceptions of healthcare professionals' engagement with sexuality at diagnosis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study included adult men diagnosed with urological neoplasms across two urology cancer centers from October 2022 to April 2024. Exclusions applied to those with prior cancer treatment, inactive sexual lives, or histories of anxiety/depression treatment. Data were retrospectively gathered from medical records and individual interviews using a semi-structured questionnaire on male s

Primary Renal Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Native Polycystic Kidney and Ureter 16 Years After Living Donor Kidney Transplant.

We describe a case of a 55-year-old woman with polycystic kidney disease who received a living donor kidney transplant 16 years earlier and was on immunosuppressive therapy with satisfactory renal function. The donor was her mother. The patient presented with flank pain on the right side and macrohematuria, and noncontrast computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging led to the diagnosis of tumors in the remaining right native polycystic kidney and ureter, as well as secondary retroperitoneal dissemination. We performed right radical nephrectomy and ureterectomy with extirpation of 2 met

Traumatic Kidney in a Patient With Unilateral Renal Cystic Disease.

Renal trauma occurring in patients with unilateral renal cystic disease (URCD) is extremely rare. Unilateral renal cystic disease is benign, nonprogressive, nonfamilial, nonencapsulated, and unrelated to cysts in other organs. It should be differentiated from autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) parenthesis, multicystic dysplastic kidney disease, multiple renal simple cysts, and cystic renal neoplasms. We report a case of a 15-year-old male with URCD admitted to the hospital sustaining blunt trauma to his right flank after a motor vehicle crash. Final diagnosis in this case was

Endothelial DLC1 is dispensable for liver and kidney function in mice.

DLC1 is a focal adhesion molecule that regulates cell polarity, proliferation, migration, and survival. DLC1 functions as a tumor suppressor and its expression is often down-regulated in various malignant neoplasms of epithelial origin. Recent studies have suggested that lack of DLC1 in endothelial cells may contribute to the development of angiosarcoma, and that DLC1 mutations have been identified in patients with nephrotic syndrome, a disease mainly due to leaky glomerular filtration barriers. To demonstrate whether lack of endothelial DLC1 induces angiosarcoma and/or damages glomerular capi

Renal-cell carcinomas in end-stage kidneys: a clinicopathological study with emphasis on clear-cell papillary renal-cell carcinoma and acquired cystic kidney disease-associated carcinoma.

Clear-cell papillary renal-cell carcinoma (CCPC) and acquired cystic kidney disease-associated carcinoma (ACDAC) are neoplasms with distinct morphological characteristics that behave less aggressively than conventional renal-cell carcinomas. End-stage kidney specimens from 61 patients (47 males and 14 females) with 109 renal-cell carcinomas were selected. Papillary renal-cell carcinoma was the most common malignancy (61/109, 56%), followed by CCPC (20/109, 18%). The CCPC showed a papillary or tubular/solid architecture, clear cytoplasm, low nuclear grade, and a distinct immunohistochemical pro

A mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney in a ringtail lemur (Lemur catta).

Primary renal tumors are rare neoplasms in nonhuman primates. This report describes a mixed epithelial and stromal tumor of the kidney (MESTK) in a 14.5-year-old female ringtail lemur. The well-demarcated, solid, and cystic mass was located in the pelvis of the left kidney and consisted histologically of both epithelial and mesenchymal components. The mesenchymal cells were arranged in fascicles around cysts lined by a well-differentiated epithelium. Neither the mesenchymal nor the epithelial parts showed significant nuclear atypia or mitotic figures. To our knowledge, only 1 similar case, cla

Amyloid A Amyloidosis Secondary to Thymoma.

Background: Amyloid A (AA) amyloidosis is commonly secondary to chronic inflammatory diseases or malignant neoplasms. Many types of cancers have been described as inducing AA amyloidosis, usually presenting with kidney involvement. However, there are no reported cases of concurrent thymoma and AA amyloidosis. Case Presentation: We describe a 52-year-old male presenting chest tightness. Through a series of examinations, the patient was ultimately confirmed to have AA amyloidosis secondary to thymoma, with kidney, cardiac, nerve, and soft tissue involvement. Conclusions: This case represents, to

Synchronous pleuro - renal solitary fibrous tumors: a new clinical-pathological finding.

Solitary fibrous tumors of the pleura (SFTP) are rare mesenchymal neoplasms usually originating from the visceral pleura, but sometimes found in other sites like the orbit, dura, paranasal sinus, upper respiratory tract, thyroid, sublingual gland, lung, periosteum, cauda equina, ovary, scrotum and testicular tunica vaginalis. Solitary fibrous tumor of the kidney is extremely rare with fewer than 15 reported cases in modern English literature. To the best of our knowledge, this report describes the first known case of synchronous SFTP in the left parietal pleura and left kidney. The SFTP of the

Immunohistologic localization of alpha, mu, and pi class glutathione S-transferases in human tissues.

Human alpha, pi, and mu class glutathione S-transferases (GSH S-T) have been localized immunohistologically in a variety of organs. Alpha GSH S-T are found principally in hepatocytes, proximal convoluted tubules of kidney, the deep reticular layer of the adrenal gland, interstitial cells of the testis, and oxyntic cells of the stomach. The pi GSH S-T are present in relative abundance in ductular, as opposed to parenchymal cells in the liver, pancreas, salivary glands, and kidney. The presence of mu GSH S-T in the tissues of certain patients and its absence in the same tissues from other patien

Contrast-enhanced ultrasound features of primary renal Ewing-like undifferentiated small round cell neoplasm: a case report.

This article reports on the diagnosis and treatment of a patient with a renal Ewing-like undifferentiated small round cell neoplasm. The patient, a 56-year-old man, presented to our hospital on March 14, 2025, complaining of "blood clots in the urine for 2 days" and "a mass in the right kidney detected on physical examination 2 days prior." On March 21, 2025, he underwent a "right renal mass needle biopsy" under local infiltration anesthesia. Postoperative pathology: (right renal mass) malignant tumor with necrosis; immunohistochemical findings consistent with renal Ewing-like undifferentiated

A rare benign parotid gland tumor: angiomyolipoma.

Angiomyolipomas are benign neoplasms composed of smooth muscle, vasculature, and mature adipose tissue, which most commonly occur in the kidney and located in the head and neck region. A very rare neoplasm, there are only 3 cases of angiomyolipoma in the parotid gland that have been reported to date. Here, we report a case of a 38-year-old man who had a slow-growing mass in the parotid gland for the past 7 years. The results of a physical examination revealed a rubbery mass that was 2.5 cm in diameter in the below superficial lobe of the left parotid gland. A computed tomographic scan showed a

[A case of small-cell malignant melanoma in a pregnant patient].

INTRODUCTION: Malignant melanoma (MM) is an aggressive neoplasm that may affect pregnant women. Malignant melanoma with small-cell morphology (MMSCM) is a rare variant of MM that can cause confusion in its diagnosis. OBJECTIVE: To report a fatal case of MMSCM in a pregnant woman, highlighting immunohistochemistry (IHC) as a very useful tool in the final diagnosis. CLINICAL CASE: A 22-year-old pregnant female presented with a 5-cm cutaneous tumor in her right leg. The lesion was excised but the patient refused any further therapy. The natural outcome of this neoplasm occurred with local recur

Antemortem diagnosis of hepatic adenocarcinoma in a ewe.

A 4-year-old ewe with weight loss, anorexia, and high liver enzyme activities was diagnosed at necropsy as having cholangiocellular carcinoma that had metastasized to kidneys, adrenal glands, heart, lungs, mediastinum, and peritoneal surface of the diaphragm. Cholangiocellular carcinoma is an uncommon neoplasm of sheep. Evaluation of liver tissue obtained via ultrasound-guided percutaneous liver biopsy had suggested an antemortem diagnosis of adenocarcinoma of the liver.

Primary oat cell carcinoma of the kidney.

A malignant renal neoplasm with all the morphologic attributes of oat cell (small cell, neuroendocrine) carcinoma is presented. It metastasized widely to regional lymph nodes and resulted in the death of the patient. Ultrastructurally, the tumor contained dense-core endocrine-type secretory granules. It had a cell component which was argyrophilic and which gave a positive immunocytochemical reaction for calcitonin. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first documentation of this tumor type in the kidney.

Face to Face With Renal Cell Carcinoma: A Case Report.

Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is responsible for most cases of primary kidney neoplasms, many of which are asymptomatic until an advanced stage. According to the World Organization of Family Doctors (WONCA), in primary health care, family doctors (FD) hold a privileged position in the early diagnosis of the disease's natural history. This case presents a 61-year-old man who sought consultation with his FD for swelling in the right frontal region with a two-week history. He denied trauma or accompanying symptoms. Clinically, he presented with a right frontal swelling, 3 cm in diameter, tender to p

Myoepithelial carcinoma of the submandibular gland: report of a case with multiple cutaneous metastases.

Myoepithelial carcinoma is a rare and aggressive neoplasm of the salivary glands. One-third of the patients may develop regional distant metastases, and lungs and kidneys have been regarded as the most usual sites for implantation. There is, however, little information on the metastatic behavior of this malignancy. We report the first case of patient with multiple cutaneous metastases from a myoepithelial carcinoma of the submandibular gland, which depicted a very aggressive clinical course.

Disparities in Trend of Renal Cell Carcinoma Mortality in the United States.

BACKGROUND/AIM: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) accounts for 90% of malignant neoplasms of the kidney. PATIENTS AND METHODS: In this report, the CDC WONDER database was accessed to retrieve age-adjusted mortality data from 1999 to 2020 due to RCC, defined as ICD-10 Code: C64 Malignant neoplasm of kidney except renal pelvis, for various demographics to investigate trends and potential disparities. RESULTS: In 2020, the overall age-adjusted mortality rate (AAMR) due to RCC in the USA was 42.4 per 1,000,000. The average annual percent change (AAPC) for the USA from 1999 to 2020 was -0.6%. Notably, i

Y-chromosome loss is frequent in male renal tumors.

BACKGROUND: Loss of the Y-chromosome is a common event in different tumor types but its prevalence and clinical relevance in renal cell tumors is still not understood. METHODS: It was the aim of this study to estimate the frequency and clinical relevance of Y-loss in kidney neoplasms. A cohort of 1,252 male renal tumors was analyzed in a tissue microarray format by fluorescence in-situ hybridization (FISH). RESULTS: Y-loss was found in 47% of tumors. The frequency of this alteration varied markedly between kidney tumor subtypes. Y-loss was most prevalent in papillary renal cell carcinoma (RC

Metastatic cutaneous and subcutaneous deposits from internal carcinoma. An analysis of cases diagnosed by fine needle aspiration.

Thirty-eight cases diagnosed by fine needle aspiration as cutaneous/subcutaneous deposits from internal carcinomas were analyzed. Eighteen patients had undergone previous surgery for primary neoplasms in the breast (9 cases), prostate (1), kidney (1), ovary (1), rectum (3), cervix (1), cheek (1) and periampullary region (1). The metastatic deposits in these cases occurred 1-42 months following removal of the primary neoplasm. Sixteen patients had metastatic deposits occurring simultaneously with the primary tumor in the lung (4 cases), pancreas (1), stomach (3), esophagus (1), ovary (1), rectu

Radiation therapy in the neonate.

Radiation therapy (RT) is frequently used in the management of children with cancer, but neonatal neoplasms are rare. Newborns represent 1.5% of the children with malignant diseases in the Tumor Registry at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia over the last 30 years. Thus, occasionally the pediatrics radiation therapist must consider treating the very young infant. The specific radiation effects on growth and development must be weighed in reaching a therapeutic decision. All children are vulnerable to the late effects of radiation therapy, but the neonates may be more susceptible because o
