PURPOSE: Laser prostatectomy has evolved as a less invasive method of relieving bladder outlet obstruction due to prostatic enlargement. A comparison of primary suturing and a new laser weld technique is described for the microsurgical repair of the inferior alveolar nerve in Wistar rats. A reliable method of exposure of the inferior alveolar nerve has been developed in order to allow intraosseous repairs of the nerve involving suturing with 10:0 nylon and a laser weld technique using an albumin-based solder, containing indocynine cardiogreen, plus an infrared (810 nm wavelength) diode laser. Seven cases of microsuture and laser weld repairs were performed with a 29.4% reduction in total operating time in the laser weld group.

PURPOSE: To assess the efficacy of diode laser photocoagulation for prethreshold retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) in zone I.
METHODS: We considered ROP in zone I that having avascular retina presenting at least 30 degrees of circumferential extent in that zone (centered in the optic disk with a radius of twice the distance from disk to fovea). The avascular retina was photocoagulated with diode laser if ROP showed <<plus>> disease in junction with any zone of fibrovascular proliferation (prethreshold stage). In seven patients with hereditary haemorrhagic teleangiectasia (HHT) only one patient had lasting benefit from treatment with the flashlamp-pulsed dye laser. In seven other patients who had received other treatment before, none had any observable effect of this laser. The flashlamp-pulsed dye laser therefore does not seem to be effective in the treatment of nasal teleangiectasias.

Phosphorus removal from wastewater is of great importance. In the present study, ferric chloride was selected as the coagulant, and tannic acid (TA), a natural polymer, as the coagulant aid to develop an effective coagulation process with the emphasis of phosphorus recovery from different types of wastewater. We report a case of twin anemia-polycythemia sequence (TAPS) treated by laser at 24 + 5 weeks' gestation, 7 weeks after a first laser procedure for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome at 16 + 6 weeks. BACKGROUND: Laser therapy is an important treatment option in retinal diseases, especially in cases of vascular involvement. Most approaches are based on coagulation of retinal structures. As there is increasing use of agents targetting vascular endothelial growth factor in the treatment of macular diseases, indications for the use of laser treatment need to be reviewed carefully, especially with respect to their significance in first line therapy.
