Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is rare in children, and it has a poor prognosis compared with other types of lymphoma. We report the case of a 7-year-old boy with spontaneous improvement of PTCL complicated by hemophagocytic syndrome as the initial symptom. He complained of pain and swelling of the right neck and presented with high fever. Pancytopenia, liver dysfunction, elevated ferritin and soluble interleukin 2 receptor were noted on laboratory tests. Peripheral blood plasma and white blood cells were positive for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) genome but, after several days, the fever abated

OBJECTIVE: This retrospective cohort analysis was conducted to examine the cost components of administering IV chemotherapy to peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) patients in the US to inform decision makers.
METHODS: Patients diagnosed with PTCL (ICD-9 code 202.7X) between 1 October 2007 and 30 September 2012 were identified from a US administrative claims database. Costs for patients receiving at least one NCCN recommended IV chemotherapy were assessed using the allowed payment from claim line items, categorized into cost components (study drug costs, IV administration costs and other visit-r

Intramuscular tuberculosis (TB) is a rare disease, and lymphoma may occur following a bout of TB. We report on an unusual presentation of peripheral T-cell lymphoma that occurred after an infiltrative lesion of intramuscular TB of the forearm in an immunocompetent host. To our knowledge, this is the first case where TB of a muscle presenting as an infiltrative lesion instead of an abscess developed into peripheral T-cell lymphoma.

BACKGROUND: T-cell lymphomas involve the testis infrequently, which deserve special attention because of the poor prognosis and the need to make an appropriate diagnosis, which could lead to a better therapeutic strategy.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 40-year-old man presented with right testicular swelling for past three months. The swelling was painless, hard and rubbery. Testicular ultrasound showed diffuse increase in size of the testicle, with alteration in its echogenicity. The patient underwent orchidectomy, and based on histopathological and immunohistochemical tests, a peripheral T-cell lymph

5-aminosalicylates (5-ASA) remain an important strategy in the induction and maintenance of remission of inflammatory bowel diseases especially in ulcerative colitis. The prototypical drug of this class, sulfasalazine is generally well tolerated with severe hypersensitivity reactions and hepatotoxicity also described within the literature. When approaching a patient with an adverse reaction to 5-ASA, it can be difficult to differentiate clinically between a sulfa allergy versus a 5-ASA allergy versus a malignancy. We report on a case with initial signs and symptoms suggestive of a sulfa/5-ASA

UNLABELLED: Peripheral T-cell lymphomas not otherwise specified are generally considered aggressive non-Hodgkin lymphomas, because of poor natural outcome and response to therapy. They show a complex karyotype without any specific genetic hallmark. We report a case of peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified with heterogeneous nuclear cyclin D1 immunohistochemical overexpression, due to gene copy gain, a phenomenon similar to that observed in mantle cell lymphoma characterized by t(11;14)(q13;q32). In this case report we underline the diagnostic pitfall represented by cyclin D1 immun

This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of gemcitabine-based combination regimen in patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL). Between May 2007 and August 2011, 26 consecutive patients with PTCL were enrolled in this study. Of these 26 patients, histology was extranodal NK/T-cell lymphoma, nasal type in 14 (53.9 %), peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified in nine (34.6 %), anaplastic large cell lymphoma, ALK negative in three (11.5 %). The majority of patients had newly diagnosed (65.4 %) and advanced (80.8 %) diseases. Treatment regimen was DIMG (dexamet

A 10-year-old Caucasian boy was admitted to the hospital with a 3-month history of headache, vomiting, ataxia, and right amaurosis. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed a solid, expansive, parasagittal mass in the right parietal hemisphere that extended sagitally to include the optical chiasm. The lesion was considered unresectable. Histology and immunophenotyping of biopsy tissue revealed characteristics of peripheral T-cell lymphoma. No other anatomical region, including bone marrow, was compromised. Primary T-cell lymphomas of the central nervous system are rare, especially in childhoo

Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) with a nodular architecture is rare. Recently, two variants have been described with infiltration of the B-cell follicle, one variant that localizes to the marginal zone with a so-called perifollicular growth pattern, and a variant that localizes to the germinal center. These lymphomas have a CD4+ phenotype and may express Bcl-6. We have studied five similar cases of PTCL with involvement of the B-cell follicle. However, our cases differ from the cases previously described by their predominant and frequently patchy involvement of the expanded mantle zone of th

A 36-year-old man presented with a 3-year-old red-brown plaque with subcutaneous nodules on his left thigh. Although a similar lesion was observed on his right thigh 3 years earlier, it spontaneously disappeared 1 year later. However, the lesion on the left thigh was growing larger. Histologically, the lesion showed a diffuse and dense infiltration of atypical lymphocytes extending from the superficial dermis to the subcutaneous tissue. Severe lobular panniculitis, composed of small- and medium-sized atypical lymphocytes and large normal histiocytes, was observed in the subcutaneous adipose ti

A 51-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with tonsillar swelling. After tonsillectomy was performed, she was diagnosed as having CD56-positive T-cell lymphoma, mainly composed of small and medium-sized atypical cells. An immunohistochemical study showed that the malignant lymphocytes were positive for CD3, CD8, CD56, TIA-1 and granzyme B, while negative for CD20, CD5 and CD10. Flowcytometry demonstrated the lymphocytes were positive for CD56. Southern blot analysis revealed a rearrangement of the T-cell receptor gamma chain. The disease stage by Ann Arbor staging classification was II

Peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCLs) are an uncommon and heterogeneous group of well-differentiated, post-thymic T-cell malignancies that can present in the skin as cutaneous T-cell lymphomas. In general, their prognosis is poor, and specific therapy is not well defined. We report the successful treatment of a patient with relapsed, refractory PTCL who after failing 13 standard single and multiple chemotherapy regimens and experimental agents had a dramatic prolonged response to diftitoxin denileukin (ONTAK). This fusion protein, composed of diphtheria toxin coupled to interleukin-2, is approve

One hundred thirty-seven patients with peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTL) were examined for the presence of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) using in situ hybridization for EBV-encoded RNA (EBER) and Bam H-fragment, lower strand frame (BHLF) and immunohistochemical stain for latent membrane protein (LMP). EBER was detected in tumor cells in 79 cases (58%); 26/66 PTL, unspecified (39%), 3/4 AILD (75%), 47/51 angiocentric lymphomas (AL) (92%), and 3/13 anaplastic large cell lymphoma (ALCL) (23%) by Revised European-American Lymphoma (REAL) classification. EBER was detected in 17/36 nodal (47%) vs. 62/101

Non-Hodgkin large cell lymphomas occurs more commonly in organ-transplanted patients than in the general population. They are usually of B-cell origin whereas T-cell lymphomas are rare. We report a new case of peripheral T-cell lymphoma in an immunosuppressed renal transplanted patient. The patient presented a hepatosplenic mass with a widespread extension causing serious pancytopenia. It was classified as a pleomorphic medium and large cell type and corresponded to the "common" alpha beta-TCR type lymphoma. Lymphomatous cells exhibited an incomplete mature T-cell phenotype. T-cell receptor ge

The association of malignant lymphoma with positive antinuclear antibody is uncommon, and their relationship is not clear. Here a 35-year-old man is presented who initially had a high titer of antinuclear antibody; later, peripheral T cell lymphoma was found. It is suggested than an unexplained high antinuclear antibody titer may warrant searching for a malignancy.
